  1. when & who will be th 1st to rep this thing ;) ,

I hope its a while if we want it to be any good. First the watch should be released, bought by the factory or a dealer, then torn down and used as a template to make the rep. Hopefully the days of "picture reps" are done. Look at how many new reps have "made with genuine as sample" in the description.

Supposedly, the GMTII Ceramic was a 10 month process. So best case, the gen is released september, then bought by dealer(s) in oct, so that would make august a good time to start seeing a good version.

Of course they can use pics to get it out faster, but I wouldn't count on any gen parts fitting on. And that new diver's extension looks hard to replicate by pics, unless they look at the patent or something.

  2. Yes, because rape is funny.

I'm going OT here, but according to some people I know who work in the system, rape isn't as common in there as we're lead to believe. I mean come on, it's a bunch of ignorant tough guys, what self respecting tough guy wants to ummm...touch another man? And rape is never funny.

On topic, the thief will eventually get caught, and that will stop future losses, but unfortunately it wont get anyone's watches back. Bittersweet. I do hope it is sooner rather than later.

  3. I like my curve, but I've been thinking about switching to at&t when my contract is up and getting the iphone, mainly for the big screen. I browse a lot on my pda so that will be nice. I wish RIM would make an iphone competitor, rumor was the 99xx series would be but the prototype or whatever is out and its definately not.

How much is that thing gonna be with a new at&t contract?

  4. well at least it's not just me. I generally don't type my email in to most websites. Use a seperate address for that. THAT one is full to the brim with spam.

I applied to following filter to my gmail accounts today, after waking up with 8 messages on my BB:

tramadol OR cialis OR pharmacy OR erectile OR rx OR viagra OR flomax OR caverta

the test seemed to have pulled all, if not most of them. If anyone can think of anything else to add let us know. I already see i forgot "prescription" DUH"OH

  5. Figured I'd ask you guys, since like me, many of you spend lots of time on the internet. I have 2 main BB email addresses that I use, and I try to keep them spam free so I'm not reaching into my pocket all day for nothing. Well, so much for that. Past few weeks I'm getting about 5-10 emails a day for online prescription meds on BOTH addresses. WTF!

I never enter these names in to any site, I can't imagine where this crap is coming from. This is on gmail BTW

Anyone else getting hit constantly all of the sudden? This is getting annoying as hell. Might just change my addys or set up a filter.

  6. not sure what this one is supposed to be, but i like it ::

however, one of the new emoticons keeps rearing it's ugly head in unintended circumstances:

    80 80

can somebody delete this thing so it doesn't keep showing up in things like sales posts ("i'm asking 80 pounds for this watch"), music discussions ("music from the 80's was clearly the best") or golf discussions ("i regularly shoot in the 80s")?

    am i alone here?

    deltatahoe

That peace sign one looks like some kind of nixon spoof or something.....and that dang 80 thing is bothering me too

  7. I know we are spoiled here, but it's what we're used to. 10yrs ago I could get 87 octane at $.89/gallon in the winter. Crept up to about 1.50 or so, I think, and if I remember correctly, 9/11 caused a huge jump in prices. The state of IL suspended it's fuel tax for a few months starting in the winter, I think, but the gas stations pocketed the difference, and us, the consumers, got no relief from that. There were alot of articles about price gouging going around at that time. I think it is still going on to an extent. In 2001, crude oil prices dropped a few dollars a barrel at the end of the year, but americans were paying about $1 MORE a gallon at the pump, I think the oil companies took advantage of our panic and fear to fill their coffers. Then we got used to paying high prices, so opec responded by raising crude oil prices to the world. I will always think it's a game and it's all BS.

And exxon mobile with 35 billion in profits? Well, at least they can afford to get to work, unlike alot of the lower-middle class.

  8. I was at the AD yesterday, with my GMTIIC in my pocket, and tried the gen on. I noticed that the bezel sound was much quieter on the gen. Thinking about throwing some oil in there some time. Maybe some people have loud bezels and some have quiet ones on their reps. But for sure the gen is very quiet and smooth. It is still obvious where it stops.

Also, the numbers on the gen bezel appeared less recessed than those on my rep. Other than this, and the inside clasp engravings, it felt just like my rep.

  9. I've had a total of 4 items ended in the past year for "copyright infringement" Total BS. 3 were genuine rolex parts and 1 was a generic/unknown vintage watch case. The generic case ticked me off the most since it didn't even do any keyword spamming. I wrote ebay and told them "Hey this is genuine/ not counterfeit stuff here" and they told me they're not in the position to determine an item's authenticity.....ok......

I think some of the "dirty" sellers are using the knowledge that ebay will take down a listing to thin their competition out.

  10. For grad school (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) I got an assistantship to help a prof with research. This was very cool because 1) it covered tuition, 2) provided me an additional monthly stipend based on 10 or 20 hours a week, and 3) involved work that was directly related to my degree program. That kind of opportunity might be harder to come by for an undergrad, but it would definitely be something to talk to your profs about.

Granted this was more than "a few" years (I shudder to think how many), but it made a huge difference in the amount of loans I had to pay off afterwards, and was a major factor in choosing the U of I over two other equally well regarded schools in my discipline.

This is similar to something I checked in to, the dorms have receptionists and people who answer questions for guests, etc. You can work up to 20 hrs a week and get paid, plus it takes some money off your cost of tuition. There are tons of other student jobs.

I never went... Though oft times I wish I had...

Guess it's never too late to give it a go... I need to look into that.

    I'm 28.......

My decision to go to a university instead of night school was easy for me, I'm not married, no kids, and have a job I won't miss. It's different for everyone though. My friend's uncle went to college his first time in his early 50's and got a phd in literature. Never really asked if he ever got a position in that field though.

    One other idea:

My second and third years of undergrad I snagged a position as an assistant super in a luxury condo building. Most of the work was behind the security desk, which meant I screened and announced visitors, accepted packages, and mostly got paid for my study time. The other duties, such as vacuuming, hauling garbage down the back staircase, and shining the brass railing on the front stairs, was flexible in that you could do them most any time as long as you didn't disturb anyone (no vacuuming in the middle of the night).

At first I just got paid an hourly wage, but after six months I scored a fairly spacious apartment in the basement, for which I had to work 'x' hours, and anything over that I got paid an hourly wage for my living expenses.

As I said, this was a luxury condo building in one of the nicest parts of downtown Boston. I realize that Dekalb (that is where NIU is located, if I recall) probably doesn't have as many luxury condo buildings with multiple assistant supers as downtown Boston, but even landlords renting to students need someone to be on site, show apartments, vacuum, etc. Find a position like this and you can at least get a break on your rent. When we first moved to Seattle, my wife and I rented an apartment in a townhouse complex with ab. 10 units. Shortly after moving in we got a similar deal, ab. 50% off our rent, for running a vacuum once a week, collecting rent, and showing apartments when there were vacancies.

Note that this did not come close to paying for my tuition, but every bit counts.

Thats a good idea too, I will def. keep that in mind for next year or summer semester. (I plan on going year round, NIU offers a summer semester that's pretty equal to the regular fall/spring semesters so why not)

  11. Maybe some of you remember the post I made about deciding to go back to school, well now it's official, I found out that I've been admitted to Northern Illinois University this tuesday.

Since tuesday, I've been hitting up everything I can, and looks like FSA, or the US dept of education will cover me for about 13,500 a year with a mixture of loans and grants. I have applied for all of this already. Tuition and expenses is going to be between 18-20k. This is with living in the residence hall, which is more expensive than an apartment. I will be living in the dorm for the first year while I get used to school, plus the dorms are paid for by the grants, etc.

I'd like to hear from people who have worked during college, and their experiences. I know full time is not a good option, grades can suffer if one is trying to attend school full time while working full time. Most people who go back to school do the night school thing, I think that would take longer.

I'd like to keep the private loans to a minimum if I need them at all. I think I'll try to take up some kind of weekend job to cover extra food, clothes, cell phone (watches) etc.

First year there probably won't be a problem, but I'm worried about having anything left for sophmore year and beyond.

ANY advice will be greatly appreciated!

    Steve

  12. I'm really starting to like the yachties especially after playing with the SS/Platinum at the AD. Then a nice presidential with glacier blue dial :Jumpy: and a solid gold sub. Had fun that day. (wonder if that guy actually thought I was serious)

Is there any rep YM with platinum plating on them?

And there are no solid WG or solid platinum on the gens except for that monstrosity YMII correct?
