  1. Hey fellow dutchy, don't know about mr Hanz, but the next strapmaker I would commission to make a custom strap would be Mario from Orloff straps again if it would be for a croc strap. Had many aftermarket strap makers straps. But Mario's texture of the croc I never seen in other straps. They are awesome.

He is cheap, fast and good quality. Send the dimensions of the strap, even with the position of the holes and you're all set.

  2. Hey noob ;-). Best way of getting your money's worth is buying from this board trusted dealers.

The watch you chose is a nice one. Had this model myself many years ago. The price is a bit high though. Will be cheaper at the trusted dealers. And you will get reliable quality control and some warranty.

    Good luck!

  3. Cats, for the many years here on the forum I always loved your profile picture, showing what a great dad you are and the connection as a father with your boy. And once again to see your thoughts, it proves so much what a gread dad you are. Great respect and so sad to hear this devastating news.

Wens jullie heel erg veel sterkte en kracht toe en geniet van alle momenten samen.

Wish you all a lot of strenght and enjoy all of your moments together.

  4. Is it something that an average person that don't deal with leather stuff everyday may know?

I did not see that question being answered yet. I think the 50usd might be a good deal. But as a business owner, you know your products and the risk of humid and warm areas on this planet. The customer might not be aware of that. Thus, imo, the seller should have a process available for return products. Like a document, with the shipping address and clear instructions on how to pack the returned item to protect it best. Similar to a users manual for the new product. Common sense might be your common sense, but not all are aware of these things. Indeed, you are in the business for almost 10 years or so.

I see it as part of the company's responsibility to help the customer returning the goods in the best way possible. So was there a clear instruction on packaging and how to return the item?

  5. Indeed the case cannot be fixed. The dial also cannot be fixed. Also the hands not, and not the crystal shape. If you want to fix it you will end up with +600usd watch which still doesn't look gen. :)

I chose for a homage watch with california dial, since I liked that dial and model so much.  ;)

  6. Compliments on your taste, the pam249 model is a very nice model. I had one too a long time ago, even had it modded by The Zigmeister. But still, if you are looking for 1:1 then better look further. The pam249 is a great model, but the rep just has way too many flaws. That is also the reason why I sold mine.

    wrong case shape, too round

    missing engraving on the case

    missing 'OP' on the dial

Dial is just a whole other story. Rep dial cannot compare to gen. The gen has these cutouts in the dial where the lume is seated in.

Rep lume on this one is quite weak

Hand are often painted while the gen has 'blued' hands

There has not been a new model recently, so the available reps are several years old already. And just last couple of years, in general the reps have improved so much with H and N factories.

If your rep pam029M is from noob factory, then in quality is is way superior to this pam249.

One thing I do like is the strap. That looks totally awesome. Do you know who the maker is and where to buy one?

  7. Ok thanks! Then I misunderstood my watch smith, but the conclusions still is that IWC modified their movement in order to let in run the extra gears much more smooth. The rep has extra gears, but the rest of the movement (mainspring and barrel, jewels, etc) is not extra modified. That is why the reps most often suffer from lower power reserves.

  8. Talking to the local watch maker here who does my services, he says service when needed! Not before, as if it runs it runs, if not THEN you can still service! Worst thing is the lack of spare parts which might be needed!

Yep you are right buddy, but some people just want to have a reliable watch from the start and not the feeling that any day the movement might be out of order. After a service it runs better and you have a more reliable feeling. Not that every time you look at your watch you might think 'oh it is just a rep that might break any day'.   B)

  9. he gen movement uses the exact same hack (a plate with transfer gears to move the running seconds) they just do a better job of it.

Yes, indeed, but a big difference, the balance wheel on the gen is replaced with a more powerful one, one that is more powerful to pull the train of extra gears. The rep is lacking in that. That is way most rep A7750 sec@ 6 have very low power reserves.

  10. Indeed hit and miss. Have had a lot of these with seconds @ 12 with the new jeweled movement. I also know some local resellers that stopped selling them, because they could not offer 6 months warranty on these ones.

The extra gears make extra drag on the movement. It takes more power to let the gear train run. The A7750 often are dirty or under/over oiled. Makes it run less good. So also with the extra gears, there you have it: most experience shorter powerreserve, some less than 8-10 hours.

Servicing the movement will solve most of these problems. But that takes an investment of around 200usd. I figure, someone who can pay 500usd for a rep, should take the service cost into serious consideration.

If you want to keep the watch for years, I'd say: service it from day 1.
