You can press it in and...? I guess it is to release the spring bars (pic 2) which are screws in this model from Watcheden (#31110). They could be quick a quick release mechanism? The gens incorporated this feature at some point (I don't recall the serial ref); the benefits of cross pollenation with sister brands in the Richemont house...
