Tudor Monte Carlo

So, two days ago, this Tudor Monte Carlo sells on eBay for $11,099.00 from a seller who sells musical instruments and doesn't even have 100% positive feedback. The photos do show a report from a watchmaker of some sort with an appraisal as well, but it still seems a little odd to me. One line: "Had it stuffed in a safe deposit box since 1977". Really?

Check it out here

I know. It looks gen to me to. But I find it odd that there is no mention of the type of movement. Both in the actual auction or in the Watch Repair report. That seems like a fairly big thing to leave out, doesn't it?

seller sells alot of expensive guitars/drums etc hes obviously legit. doesnt look like he knows jack sh*t about watches though, but seems to sell a fair few vintages on the side. only worry would be if he was sold something he thought was a gen.. but i guess he has a watchmaker check them over.

It has for sure a gen dial on it. The bezel looks like a replacement. The band for sure is aftermarket. Most of these were sold without a band...sold on a nato style strap.

Someone got a good deal on this one. This is the lowest price for a 7031 or 7032 I have seen in about 4 years. It is funny that the appraisal only states about $8k!

Phong's price doesn't seem that bad to me. Is it possible to build a good looking Monte Carlo for less than that? Toomuchgear seems quite please with his Monte Carlo from J&W.

@Toomuch, if you are reading this....care to comment?

Hi Redwatch,

Sorry to chime in late.

You might be able to build one for a little less say $1200-$1500 but it will depend on the donor movement, its condition and how much work to make it all fit together. If it matters to you with J&W offering you get a signed Tudor bridge on the movement as well. You might be able to negotiate a better price than $1900 with J&W so that might a good starting point.

I've been very happy with my 7032, the Big Block case sits tall and looks great on the wrist and of all my watches this by far gets the most comments. The main flaw obviously are Homeplate indices but then again how many people out there would know the dial was incorrect -not many!

Thanks Toomuch! I appreciate your input. Of course, now you are making my decision that much more difficult. I have already been in touch with J&W and just waiting on a reply. I love the look of the watch though, all minor flaws aside. It's a great looking, unique, vintage piece!

I should probably finish my first Tudor project first and then I think I will head down the Monte Carlo path! :D

Good luck there RW! I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Monte Carlo.

I know what you mean, I have the tendency to get more than one project started at the same time then realize I have several watches all in pieces and nothing done.:D
