jackiespanner Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Anyone use newsgroups? If so, out of interest, which news reader do you use? JS
Ronin Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Unfortunately, newsgroups are going the way of the Dinosaur. Like Gopher and Archie before. Problem is, most ISP's have dropped news servers, or contracted with third parties with bandwidth caps. That said, your only option is join and pay for a news service like GigaNews. Most of the content is available via Torrents these days, and the newsgroups ARE actually more closely monitored by LEA then the rest of the net. Back in the day I used NewsShark. Haven't been on usenet in about 5 years now!
Jkay Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 PAN is the way to go. Linux and Windows support .. it's been around for years and years. Pimp.Ass.Newsreader (PAN)
Toadtorrent Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 I haven't been on newsgroups for years after my ISP dropped coverage of them. I have friends who still use them but via the pay services and find them cleaner for downloads of binaries than some torrents. He just saves up downloads, and subscribes to a 3 day service and goes hog wild.
