Nig Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 Hello all I bought a Omega Speedmaster from PT looks great but it's gaining time at quite a fast rate is this the normal quality of a Rep and can I fix it? Has it just a few weeks Nig
ubiquitous Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 How much time would you say it's gaining within a 1 hour/12 hour/ 24 hour time frame? Depending on the amount, it could be a rate/beat adjustment issue, or if it's gaining an egregious amount of time, it might be in need of an overhaul.
TeeJay Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 It could just be that it needs regulating. I've read about movements running very fast due to the hairspring sticking (has the effect of shortening the spring, thus speeding the movement) but that is normally things like 2 minutes fast in an hour, so 2 minutes in 24 hours, I'd suggest regulation first Best of luck
ubiquitous Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 See if you can get the beat/rate checked on a Vibrograf.
Nig Posted November 11, 2009 Author Report Posted November 11, 2009 thanks all I will have to get someone to have a look at it I have no idea
FxrAndy Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 where are you in the world, we may be able to recommend someone
jackiespanner Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 I regulated my speedy using the information I found here... Also, read the post by Sir Zig of Meister, which is under the picture. For your information, I took my time and over a couple of days, I managed to get my watch +5 every 24hrs. You will also need something like this... http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-zone/europe/uk/england/london/time.htm Good luck. JS
FxrAndy Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 I think Tom Highway is the closet to you, but i would ask around your local independent watch smiths if they would have a look first, it may be a 2 min job for them
watchpro Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 thanks all I will have to get someone to have a look at it I have no idea Two minutes in 24 hours is not really bad for a new watch. I would keep it wound for a few more weeks and keep track of the daily time gains. You might find it will break in during that time and run more accurately.
