I thought with auctionsniper.com I was sure to wind it. Who got it?
redwatch
Oh man, that sucks! It's a beautiful dial! I wonder who the lucky winner was? I'm surprised with auctionsniper you still managed to get out bid
crockey
I thought my $850 bid would be way above the selling price. Guess I was wrong. The person that won was obviously sniping as well. I bet he was surprised how hight it went. It was at $280 with 20secs to go
vlydog
Just remember that being outbid by 10 dollars doesn't tell the whole story. The winning bidders registered top end could have been hundreds more than your bid.

crockey
I am still ticked I didn't get it. This was to be the base for my 1016 project
lhooq
I am still ticked I didn't get it. This was to be the base for my 1016 project I suppose this is a moot point now, but with that dial I think it would have been more of a 6610 project. Condolences for your loss, regardless! EDIT: I originally wrote '6350', which I now think is incorrect. Edited December 23, 2009 by LHOOQ
alligoat
Hmm, I'm thinking w/ dial feet at 6 and 11:30 that it's for a 1560/1570 movement and a 1016....
lhooq
Thanks for clearing that up, alligoat. It was the "Officially Certified Chronometer" label that threw me off. Despite all my reading about it, the history of the Explorer always manages to confuse the hell out of me!
alligoat
I'm with you LH, I still can't keep the early models straight. Here's a brief history from Dowling and Hess: http://www.newturfers.com/bin/mwf/topic_show.pl?tid=37834 OCC dials were used until around '63 or so when they were replaced w/ SCOC dials. Also, Swiss dials (using radium)went out about the same time as Rolex started using tritium, hence the Swiss-T<25 came into existence. So this is an early 1016 dial, which explains the high price, I guess. It would be worth it if you had a gen where you needed to replace the dial, but not for a franken, IMO. But different strokes for different folks.
