The infamous first purchase

Dear everyone!

I have spent the past few months browsing the internet looking for that one watch that stands out to me.

I am a big man with big wrists. They are 24 cm or 9.5" around. This means that although i love the design of the Rolex Day Date II, wearing one would prompt people to ask why i was using my wife's watch. Not really the desired reply.

I have limited the search somewhat. I have made a few links to the perspective models below. I was contemplating putting in pictures, but i did not want to commit copyright infringement towards the dealers. Which, given the circumstances, is rather funny.

The models are:

Breitling for Bentley Flying B - Stainless steel, Black Dial

Joshua

Andrew

I have found this watch at a higher price with Eurotimez, but their prizing eliminates them.

Now both Joshua and Andrew are trusted vendors here at RWG, and I haven't found any review of this particular model that could tell me the differences if there are any. I was puzzeled by the reply i got from Joshua saying that i would not need extending links to make the watch fit. I have never experienced not needing extra links on genuine watch purchases before (Police, Omega, Gant, Seiko). Does anybody here have such a watch? And if so, would the original fit a 9.5" wrist?

Do you have any recommendations? I work as a Chef Restaurateur in a popular restaurant. I work in the kitchen, but i am also out amongst the guest, and i'd like a watch that will be noticed when i greet people. Watches are wonderful conversation starters, and i'd like to draw on their potential. I would like a watch that's as close to the original as possible as i'll meet people who are wearing the genuine article. I might go for a TT, but a FG would be overreaching. Nobody's going to believe that i spend USD 40K+ on a watch, or they will believe it and i'll have the IRS crawling all over me.

As a part of this i have decided to write a few postings about this experience. Many comming members have not made a purchase yet, and i think they will benefit from a description of the experience. I know i would have. :)

With regards from the cold north of Norway where the temperature currently is below -28 degrees Celcius.

man i would think a breitling sosf or blackstell or super avenger will fit you perfekt, put a nice leather strap on it( big and classy watch like the flyng B), and youl be fine, btw these are super reps, or you take the iwc big pilot, also very cool, i think you would be happy with one of them :) or all of them :D

Mmmm, there is something about your motivation, brother :) " Hi Chef. What a nice Breitling you have here, what about salmon ,it's rep or gen?" :)

Calling out perceived motives on a rep-watch site is the best example ever "of the pot calling the kettle black". Also a good example of "projection".

I seriously doubt that they'd be asking me wether it's a rep or gen, but i dont think i am alone in wanting the rep to pass as a gen? Isnt that why people like Josh put so much time and energy into the replication process? In the case of the Breitling Flying B they have both purchased an original to replicate from to ensure the exact copy. There may be something about my motivation, but it is shared with a great majority of the rep-buying public. ;)

It depends by how you define 'pass as gen'.

If you mean people here might want people to appreciate that they are wearing a nice watch, yes, it's always nice to receive compliments, but mostly, folks just don't notice, or if they do, rarely pass comment :)

If you mean people would actually say "Yeah, it's real..." if asked if it's real or fake, and it's really a rep, then you won't find many like that on this forum :)

PS For your size wrist, I would suggest a Panerai 127 or 217 :):good:

I have been by the Breitling dealership in Bergen, Norway and none of the leather or rubber straps fit. I need a steel chain that can be added links onto.

The Breitling SOSF is a nice watch, but it was the square casing that attracted me to the Flying B as it is the only Breitling with a square casing.

I will look into the IWC one :) Thank you.

You do speak the truth! :)

I am not looking to go to an AD and have the watch pass as a gen, but i don't want a watch that is obviously fake, such as a Folex with a battery.... :yuk:

I will seriously look into the Panerai. It appeals to me because of it's apparent simplicity. I recognize that different vendors have different specialties. Who is the Panerai specialist? Please PM me if this is inappropriate to put in the thread.

Thank You! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Just kidding,Sir,you're definitely not alone, however, Josh should put more time and energy "into replication process" (IMHO) :D

Back to the topic, IWC Big Pilot 5004 with Chief AR and Zig Lume would be my choice

I think any dealer is as good as another when it comes to Panerai. As you say, their appeal is their simplicity. Another appeal, is that most people don't even know of the brand, so they don't even question if it is real or not. As long as it doesn't say "Rolex" on the dial, it can't be a fake (as the general public think) ;)

Any thoughts on the Panerai 341 Radomir? It's got a 60mm casing which is BIG. :)

Probably too big for many, but, you might get on okay with it... Try putting something of similar size on the top of your wrist... As long as it remains 'on your wrist', rather than projecting over the sides of your wrist, it's not too big :good:

I LOVE it! :1a::Jumpy::chef:

How big is it? where can i get it?

All the complications work like the genuine.. A.S. makes very Noveau art designs.. and as I worked a lot of clubs and restaurants.. I know this would be a hit.. amazingly accurate.. you will never ever be called out..imo.. and jazzy :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Hmmmm... I do like that one. I cut out a piece of cardboard according to the measurements, and it fits just great. :)

Think i'll have one of these if the strap is long enough. Is the strap longer than usual on this one? Thank you for your expedient reply :D

I looked at it, and it really appeals to me. It's not all that big, but it's 14.5mm tall. Can the chain be extended to fit, i have sent an e-mail to Josh too, but you seem to know. ;)

If it fits, I'd say go for it :) You can always get straps of different lengths :victory:

I have smaller wrists probably like an 8 inch or something around there. But the Chronofighter Oversize is good IMG_8183 Here is the SFSO IMG_8184 and how I wear it breitling watch band I imagine there is enough room for an inch or two with the strap. Or the pathfinder, non replica lol Casio 1500T

Just want to stay away from something too small... The milgauss looks about like this IMG_0221 the momo design chrono.

Josh will answer once he wakes.. but I had to downsize the bracelet.. my wrist is between 7 and 7.5" .. I forgot to mention the AR is superb.. the height matches the design.. it's a very cool watch .. it comes with a little tool to turn the crown.. I never use it but it will make turning the triangle easy.. the GMT hand adjust the date.. the happy.. unhappy face is supposed to dictate the weekday and the weekend me thinks..under the second at the 9 are sun and moon markings and the red needle rotates for a 24 hour cycle kinda cool.. and definitely not seen by the generic Rolex and Pam crowd..

the balance on the wrist is very good.. let me get a wristi up..
