edgematic1 Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 I just ordered my HBB from Hont, he's saying he would ship it via FedEx or DHL. What do you guys think about this? As I thought the customs control of DHL was more strict than the normal customs. Though, he says he has experience with this. What do you EU guys think?! regards
SEleven Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 I've ordered from Hont before and he sent my watch via DHL to the Netherlands. Passed customs without a problem and actually fastest delivery I've ever had (shipped on Sat. on my wrist by Monday evening). Best of luck and hope it goes smoothly.
lanikai Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 You guy's are lucky if your not charged duty.. in the US any watch sent Fedex... you receive a bill for duties shortly after.. the gen. doxa I received cost an additional 45 usd for duty.. So you in the EU don';t experience this with Fedex??
Stephane Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 Warning: FEDEX => Invoice => VAT declaration for the belgian territory. So, the best case: you pay VAT. The worst: item is seized. That is my very own experience with Fedex to Belgium. I don't know about DHL.
silverspeed Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 I've had nothing but trouble with FedEx, DHL or any other courier service in The Netherlands. According to a Dutch customs officer, working at a FedEx depot about 90% of all items coming from China get checked. I always use registered mail, delivery time may take a bit longer and there is no tracking but the change of items getting seized are way lower.
rsv123 Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 In my early days of rep collecting I had a few watches shipped by FedEx and DHL and they always end up getting VAT charges at customs. I think this is part of their business model actually, as the 'handling fee' is a fixed amount, say
theflyingdutchman Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 But does HONT not claim that registered airmail gets lost... or something! And he wants 40USD for a registered airmail shipmnet that cost 5USD (see stamp used)...
