6263 and Valjoux Questions

Hi Guys,

I am contemplating a future 6263 project and am trying to decide how deep to jump in. I know that I don't want to spend an arm and a leg but do want a quality and fairly accurate spcimen. I was thinking of going with a DW case kit and probably a Valjoux 72 movement. I might have a source for a movement but was wondering if it is hugely noticeable using a V72 and not a V726 or V727. The only difference I can tell in the 72 and 726 is the beat increase. Maybe somebody knows more about it than I do (I am hoping so). I haven't really seen what the price differences are between a V72 and V726 either. Maybe that would be the deciding factor. Anyway, I was just wondering if it would be a good quality rep with a DW case kit and standard V72 movement. Thanks in advance!!!!

The other* difference between the 72 and the 727 is the microstella balance, which is visibly cool, but not going to make anyone think the movement is genuine. Anyone who opens the back of the watch will know straight away that the movement is not Rolex, unless you spend a fortune.

There's a whole 727 and DW case kit in the classifieds right now.

* if the beats are different in the two, which I didn't know.

Sorry to bring this thread back up, but I was wondering if anyone has used a 72C or 730 in a Daytona. I wondering if the additional calendar mechanism makes the movement too thick. One site says the 72 is 6.25mm in thickness and the 72C 6.95m. I have seen some go for reasonable prices and there is a nice 730 on eBay right now. The 730 is a great choice because it has the 21,600 beat and also has a triovis regulator. Just wondering how open my options would be. Thanks!!!!

It depends entirely on the case you are trying to install the movement into. I doubt a V72x with calendar components will fit into either a gen 62xx or DW case, which is the benchmark for aftermarket Daytona cases around here. I would assume that you will be needing to remove the calendar components prior to final assembly.
