  1. Sounds like your watchmaker found exactly the problems with yours as with mine - namely movement fit (though mine didn't need shims!), pusher tube fit, bezel fit, hands, and the stem. I think I waited 2 months for a stem! But that's a beauty. The dial is very nice indeed. Is there really any way to tell that it's refinished? Have you considered some serious polishing of the caseback? The PAF casebacks I've seen on't internet all seem to be well polished - your fresh looking engraving is detracting from the overall effect somewhat. But thanks for posting.
  2. Here we go. I think I'm crazy, of course. It was expensive. For good reason. Had the other one for a while now. God. Sorry about the crappy iPhone pic
  3. 8 watch in macassar for me - I'm in the UK. pm me when you need any money...
  4. If I'd been in the us I'd have been in. Any chance you could talk him into a discount for an 8 slot Macassar shipped to the uk as a part of the same group buy?
  5. And now tz-uk has degenerated to 'mental illness', 'idiots', 'scum' and 'fake [censored]'. Sigh I don't know how you fake a [censored]. I've faked a few orgasms in my time, but when you're flying solo I don't see the point.
  6. The recent thread on tz-uk was quite frustrating but I managed to keep myself out of it. It's very difficult to understand other people's mindsets somehow...
  7. I watched "my" watchmaker do this on my bracelet, and it wasn't for the faint hearted. Mostly because of the sheer quantity of filth, dirt, and skin that came out of the links! Seriously, it looked pretty awkward, and though he didn't have the tool for it, he made a fantastic job on mine. In fact, the two new (well, from the remains of another bracelet) links he put in look better than some of the other links. But he is a very painstaking kind of guy. Another thing to be aware of is that if you need to insert a link, you need one of the correct width.
  8. Thanks JoJo - I thought those looked rather nice. I've just poked about on Jeweleryandwatch, and seems like it's a massive step up in price from the V72 powered watch. I should look for a gen dial for my current watch before splashing out that much on a Zenith. Chrz
  9. Been wearing this every day since I got it. Absolutely love it. V72 all the way, baby. I've been thinking about a Zenith Daytona, though. Maybe black faced, grind off the crown guards and stick on a black plastic bezel from a Tudor chrono. I think that would be nice. Where can you get a Zenith movement case? And dial? And other bits?
  10. There was a post on one of the Rolex Forums lately, and someone had their AD change a regular dial for this one in a SS model. So it can be done. I have a friend who is trying to save himself 10k by persuading another dealer to do the same
  11. Exactly. If you look at the gen, the edges are absolutely crisp and straight, no matter how big a picture you see. The inside edges of these look a little wonky - maybe not at wrist distance, but certainly to the naked eye. The crispness of the bezelling on the case might also not be so crisp, but that wouldn't be as noticeable, I think.
  12. The crown guards are still a bit wobbly, which would be far more worrying to me than the difference in the colour of the dial. But for $400, it looks nice. Are they doing this in the carbon finish any time soon? That would get my wallet out of my pocket.
  13. You never know. The Rolex Jack Bauer wore in the first few series of 24 was a rep.
  14. Yes, cash and patience. You don't have much choice with either, it seems, you need plenty of both (having said that, if the movement in my donor watch had been viable without the complete service, this would have cost me
  15. Here we go, that's what I'm talking about!! Some 'unboxing' pictures Not too much of a franken - the only gen things are the crown and the bracelet. End links are 357, which is wrong (am I right?), but they look semi-ok. I _really_ love the overall look of the watch. ***'s going to put another link in the bracelet for me soon, which should make it much more wearable (pretty tight right now), but I have the croc strap if needs be. Size is fine - just the narrowness of the bracelet at the clasp end looks odd right now. Lack of date and manual wind might get to me, but I'm excited right now. I waited so long, I browsed around for some other things like the box and the leaflets. I've just noticed that the Oyster leaflet has a twinlock on the front, which doesn't tally with the triplock on my watch. Boo. I didn't spend a lot of time investigating what leaflets came with what boxes, when. I have seen a gen for sale in one of these boxes, so that is possibly correct (not that it really matters). Next stop - new dial and mod, then new bezel (I'll postpone those for a much later date) Thanks everyone in the RWG Rolex area. I wouldn't have this without you. Kenny
  16. Guess what is on my wrist this afternoon. Pics to follow over the weekend. This has been a pretty long wait!
  17. I'm just starting. When I say starting, I'm not going to do the diet, and I'm going to spread the workouts a bit more to compensate for other activities. I did the first arms and back workout on Saturday and felt so unwell after it I didn't do abs ripper X until Sunday. I forget what disc I'm on tonight, then climbing tomorrow, etc... I really should do the diet because my main problem is fat (and [censored]), rather than a lack of muscle (though I am not huge at 6'3", 206 ish lbs). I'll let you know how I get on.
  18. Are the crown guards or crown off? they look weird
  19. It looks like it will be beautiful. When it's finished, if you send it to Rolex for a service, will they put a genuine dial in for you?
  20. Gorgeous though that carrera might be, I bet it's 35mm and therefore far too small to be worn. For display purposes only.
  21. I have a set that don't fit at all. I ended up buying a gen bracelet. It wasn't outrageously expensive.
  22. I seem to have gone for the same combo as nearly everyone else, plastic bezel with white on black dial. I wish Mr Watchmaker guy would get a move on. It's been 14 months now. I think I quite fancy getting it for my 40th birthday now, which is next month, but it seems unlikely.
  23. The price seems surprisingly reasonable. I still can't afford it. I just bought a car. Second hand. With 100k on the clock.
  24. It's too cheap and unpopular to be repped, imo. I've seen it with some very hefty discounts, so $1100 for a chrono is cheap, but not out of the ballpark. I quite like 'em, myself
  25. The other* difference between the 72 and the 727 is the microstella balance, which is visibly cool, but not going to make anyone think the movement is genuine. Anyone who opens the back of the watch will know straight away that the movement is not Rolex, unless you spend a fortune. There's a whole 727 and DW case kit in the classifieds right now. * if the beats are different in the two, which I didn't know.
