PeteM
Can someone relieve my frustration? Pretty please? You need to explain what you mean mate but on the face of it..... its simply a matter of supply and demand.
cougaree
I just don't think it would cost $600+ to built a Panerai crown guard.
Drulee
I just don't think it would cost $600+ to built a Panerai crown guard. It probably only cost a few dollars to make, but genuine Panerai owners who lose theirs are charged around $250 - $400 for a replacement crown guard, depending upon the type. However, getting one is a strictly enforced process for genuine owners, and practically impossible for anyone who doesn't own a gen PAM.
w0lf
If you can make one with identical fit and finish to OEM for less than 500 you'll have a lot of buyers. So far nobody's been able to achieve that.
jchurch
how does one "lose" a genuine one? I would imagine there is someone out there with a machine that can cut them out (water jet or something along those lines). Wouldn't having a genuine one to take the measurements from mean you could just crank out one that was of the exact same measurements. I suspect that is what people are doing and because of the demand they have to charge an arm and a leg.
Logan
Its just a case of CNC machining, theres a been a few projects over the years to make them. The quality has been pretty good, at least the one I have, but certainly not up to the genuine standards. I spent quite a while on mine getting the edges and brushed finish right. The steel used was very soft low grade compared to what we would expect from the genuine too. CNC machining though is something that sounds easy, but its actually extremely hard to get the fit and finish to the standards we expect on watch parts. The swiss makers invest millions on gear to make this stuff for a reason.

fishgodeep
This is the way I see it - the same as with most parts 90% to Gen - $40 95% to Gen - $100 98+% to Gen - $200+ 100% Gen!! - $450 + It's almost impossible to make something perfectly 1:1 even with a genuine as a sample and the best equipment available There will always be minor differences to any gen you compare it to - but then if you compare gens of the same model you'll see minor differences between them. It's just about satisfying yourself and if that means a Gen CG for $600 then go for it!! Cheers FGD

kbiz
Market value... I've bought 2 Ti CGs before for $450 each, but now guys, mainly on these forums, are buying them at $700! So if someone is willing to pay that much then you might have to also... or just make accept the rep product...

kbiz
Okabum, you should consider making a contemporary CG for the A-F series... no one makes one... but so many reps could use it! The Gen CGs are getting more and more expensive... you're QC is great and your ability to design and finish product is so fast!! I would buy at least 4 or more CGs A-F series... please do it!
