nakortheblue Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 My colleague wore his gen GMTIIc today and I happened to wear the rep. This is a quick and dirty iPhone pic of both side by side.
Jkay Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Nice! The spot of AR coating under the cyclops is the only tell that I can pick out. I might have to take Noobfactory up on their sale event on this watch before it's gone.
nakortheblue Posted September 14, 2010 Author Report Posted September 14, 2010 One more shot with more cyclops. Can't seem to do a proper head-on shot without a better setup... too many stray reflections. @JKay: fyi, my rep is modded... just in case you jump the gun on the strength of these pics.
Migge Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 @JKay: fyi, my rep is modded... just in case you jump the gun on the strength of these pics. [ R, In what way is your GMT II C modded? Cheers Mike
nakortheblue Posted September 14, 2010 Author Report Posted September 14, 2010 Can you guess? Hint: figure out which is gen and which is rep first...
Migge Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Can you guess? Hint: figure out which is gen and which is rep first... LOL, R, I hate these games because I am so bad at them. Does the one on the right have an AR
nakortheblue Posted September 14, 2010 Author Report Posted September 14, 2010 See... You're pretty good at it. The one on the right is my rep with the whole crystal double-ARed. Tells when zoomed in seem to be: - 6 and 9 markers are too wide - rep lume is too white and glossy (since it is mostly white paint....), gen is slightly matte and ever so slightly yellowish-green (it may not be pure C1) - rep insert numerals are whiter (also painted I guess), gen is slightly darker (platinum) - the green of the rep gmt hand is darker, gen is brighter green, same for the green text on the dial Here's some cropped pics Gen Rep
Migge Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Aha, got it! So all in all its a pretty darn good rep compared to the genuine...! Mike
sneed12 Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 The very first, easiest tell is the cannon pin. Every Rolex rep I've ever seen has it.
freddy333 Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 The very first, easiest tell is the cannon pin. Every Rolex rep I've ever seen has it. ?
sneed12 Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 ? Every hand I've ever seen for a 21j or ETA based Rolex clone has a hole in the middle of the seconds hand where it mounts to the pin. A gen Rolex will have a domed thing over this hole. Take a look at the pics above, it shows very clearly. I suppose canon pin isn't the right thing to say, since you can't actually see it... I'm used to using this terminology to talk about PAMs though.
freddy333 Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Not sure I agree with you there. Different sizes, yes, but no domes that I can see There certainly are ways to tell the difference between Rolex gen & aftermarket sweep seconds hands. But I think that if you rely on a hole in the center of a seconds hand as the deciding factor, you are going to have problems.
nakortheblue Posted September 15, 2010 Author Report Posted September 15, 2010 Oh yeah, forgot all about the hand stack. @Freddy: love your white Pan-Am.
