tabularasa415
So, I have a new replica on the way from Joshua, my first watch purchased from him. I have read on many threads about having asian clone movements serviced and cleaned due to the lack of sterility in their working environments and whatnot (I'm quoting The Zigmeister as a source here, among others). What about this watch that I've bought with an ETA 2892-2? Should I have this watch serviced and cleaned, or should it be ok since I spent the extra on a good movement? Any opinions here? I'm hoping some of you can weigh in on your experiences.
Cats
I'm not an expert but having a gen ETA movement doesn't mean that it's properly lubed and regulated. It never hearts to get it done. But if it runs well within reasonable accuracy you could decide to leave it that way. Carpe Diem Cats
hiker01
IMHO......i wil use it till it stops, then have it serviced........so far it worked for me with over 20 watches! I only have to service 3 so far.....and they are the A7750s!
plaifender
I guess I agree with Hike.. If it were a 7750, i'd say get it serviced regardless of how it's running.. but all of my non 7750's are swiss ETAs and have run spectacularly upon arrival.. granted, most of them have been serviced. In spain, you can get a non-chrono watch serviced for between 30 and 75 euros. (depending on who does the service)
tabularasa415
Thanks guys. I suppose one way or another it's eventually going to have to be serviced. I think I may have found a good watchmaker relatively close to home (within 60 miles) so I may let him service one of my swiss reps before I send him any gens. Guest jsuperman17
Use it before you do complete surgery on it.. Where and see how accurate it keeps time... Then if it isn't... Then service it...
freddy333
There are scores of posts here (authored by very knowledgeable members) recommending a full overhaul for any new rep that you plan to keep or need to rely on for accuracy. The movements in reps are either used (pulls from other used watches) or unserviced surplus.

tabularasa415
I think you're right. If I get it, love it and decide to keep it... off to the watchmaker it goes. That way, I won't end up like so many people on here posting as to how crappy my purchase was after it stops working in a year
