How to remove the engravings from the Rehault

Just as the title says - how can one remove the engravings from the rehault? Sandpaper?

It is just metal, so sandpaper, emory cloth, a dremel, etc can be used to remove engravings.

If i was going to to it i think i would stick the case in the lathe with the bezel/crystal ect removed and use a bit of emery paper on the end of peg wood to keep the rehaut flat and uniform
