Tribal
Hello Folks, i have updated my MBW Franken Sub... i took the whole movement of my MBW 1B and transplanted it,in my beloved old MBW-case with Lugholes... Thats the result I like it a lot... The Dial of the MBW 1B is the best i have seen,Datefont is crisp and clear... HauteHippie
Strangely enough, it looks just like it did with the other movement!!! ;) That's the watch I seek. And yours looks great, Tribal. Congrats. The pre-F style of a couple years ago was great. Such a shame I had zero interest in them at the time. *sigh*

By a Modern MBW 1A and a MBW 1b from George, change the whole movement, the bracelet, put a gen tube and crown on it... And you have a great Franken Sub... the best you can sell the 1B after that change.. My Franken Sub had a bad dial,it bothers me a long time.... After i saw Ubi changed it on his franken, i thought... "Why not" it's a quick flip over... And Ubi is right Looks damm good i think... By the way, what's the difference in movements between the 1A and 1B anyhow?

By the way, what's the difference in movements between the 1A and 1B anyhow? I think you can't find this case with lugholes anymore.. thats the reason i never sold it.. No difference, the same movement ETA 2836-2... You can by TTK's noobmariner,it's the same watch but Asian movement... It's cheaper but you must flip the Dial and the Datewheel overlay.. Yep, already have a TTK/TWG noobmariner... 2 actually. Bought a broken one for the dial and datewheel. Now if I can just find someone to sell me an old TW Best or MBW with lug holes I'll be set... If not, you're right, MBW 1A might be the only way to go. And I might not want to wait too long before it is gone too. hehehe

What is the difference between the TW Best Classic case with the lug holes and the MBW 1A case? I let my MBW 1A go a couple of years ago but kept my TW Classic. If I recall correctly the crystal height was higher on the MBW and the case back was thicker.

Tribal
Good question. Tribal has both cases at his disposal, so surely he can fill us in. There where a lot of variations of the TW cases.. The old mbw cases has a little smaller Rehaut, but there are also variations... I think when you compare the latest Twc ase and the mbw case there are no differnces... Look on my frankensub, you see nice deep rehaut, compare with Ubis Sub,i see no differnebces ... Ok Lugholes on mine,The new MBW case has no lugholes and same construction..

So another little tidbit I heard through the grapevine is that the MBW 1A comes from the same factory as the MBW vintage models, while the 1B comes from an entirely different factory.... Tribal
I just ordered a 1A... Thats a good choice to become a good Moddingbase... Put the Dial and the datewheel from your TTK Sub on the watch, also the bracelet.. Install Gen Tube and Crown,Gen Insert and you hgave great Frankensub.... But Caution its not so easy to install agen Tub,because you must drill the casehole and retapp..
HauteHippie
But Caution its not so easy to install agen Tub,because you must drill the casehole and retapp.. Practice makes perfect. And that's what cheap broken CN subs are for: practice!
Tribal
Practice makes perfect. And that's what cheap broken CN subs are for: practice! Yes man... But on the MBW the hole is about 2,5mm and its low on the case... You must drill up in 0,1mm steps, when you don't, you see where you drilled on back of the case... Not like on CN Subs.. By-Tor
Now that's a deep rehaut. Deeper than a fish tank. Seriously, it looks wonderful. It's actually so good that I'd buy a genuine pearl to finish it off. The current one looks nice... but that would be the final icing on the cake. Keep up the good work! Finding bits in 0.1mm increments from 2.5mm to 2.9mm (whatever the hole size for a 3mm tap is?) could be difficult. I'm not sure I understand the problem you're describing, though. Are you using a hand drill or a drill press to do this?

I'm not sure I understand the problem you're describing, though. Are you using a hand drill or a drill press to do this? You must drill up to 2,8mm or 2,9mm ... First time i used my dremel... I think a hand drill will work better... There is more control about the work.. You can get Cobaltdrills in all dimensions... After you have drilled to the right dimensons, you must grind down the hole, that the Tube sits flush on the case... After that retapping...
