Beautiful 6152 Luminor

Hi Gents

A while ago I did a beautiful 3646 build for a guy off WC which was based on one of b-uhrs (HF) excellent reference pics. I loved it so much I really didn't want to let it go! So when I decided I wanted to make myself a budget 6152 my first stop was b-uhrs thread and I found the following MM build. Something about the way the dial and hands worked together really grabbed me.

I'm really, really happy with how it came out. I think it looks like a no compromise legit vintage but at a budget price ;) It's actually taken me weeks to get the lume colour perfect for the dial using vitrail and then I mixed a different shade for the hands to keep it balanced. I corroded the hands by using pompes (HF) excellent egg tutorial and then applying some artists charcoal to reproduce the carbon marks in the lume. I liked the dial from the start and I thought the hands looked pretty good. Together they looked nice. In a build they look gob smacking! It's moments like these that make the process worthwhile.

Specs:

Cartel 6152/1 Case

Standard Crown Guard made firm & text removed

Nightwatch Tropic 24 Tall Plexiglass

Nightwatch Thick Solid Case back

Seagull Asian 6497 ST36 with Swan & H3

Custom dial with flush resin fill & lume

Custom hands with lume

Hi rsea .. Quite by accident (I was going to look at what WBK had in stock in the USA) I noticed you have just become a trusted modder over at RWI, and I love the pictures of your available models.

I hope you do very well in your new custom-order vintage PAM business.

I must say mate... i think the jobs you have done have looked great and the added value of the budget makes these a stonking opportunity for guys to taste the vintage look for themselves without breaking the bank...

Good luck :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Thanks very much guys

PeteM - I was just saying over at RG that I like to avoid using more expensive parts when possible. I don't mean using mineral glass or anything crap like that, but it's the subtleties that push the price of these up, up and over the top

eg

This build would sell for about $400 + fees & shipping

Now $400 to me is allot of cash but if the vintage is good, it's worth that much to me

But say I wanted to take it a step further with these awesome and beautiful mods;

NW CG

Lug pins

Solid plexi

Brass Crown & Tube

Reshape

You've just more than doubled the price of your build

Is it worth it?

If you're a vintage aficionado than yes, because you're not going to be happy with shortcomings of the $400 piece. For the other 99% of the population??

This is why I like to make reasonably priced vintages

Some lume shots of my el cheapo build ;)
