Noob posting pictures...

Hi,

I just wanted to show some pics of my new acquisition here. I am new to Reps and this is my second one (from Josh). I find it to be an excellent Rep, but I bet that some of you experienced guys will find "flaws" (differences compared to the real thing). I fell in love with this watch and it keeps accurate time. I hope the pics are enjoyable - I am not an experienced photographer...By the way, on the first picture the watch looks a bit tight-fitting, mainly because of the shadow below. It sits a bit tight, but not that much as it looks. I was amazed when I got the watch that it has not a fine-adjustment on the clasp and immediately searched the web to find out that this is also true for the Gen!

Regards,

Bernie

Hi, first post here!

Great watch, is that the 42mm or 45mm version?

Hi, this is the 42mm version. I was always thinking about buying a PO Replica, but the "happy feet" deterred me from doing it. I saw this watch on Josh's site and it was advertised very well. No happy feet, the purple tone of the AR coating etc... - so I could not resist. It was only later that I heard of some problems these watches have (the threads), but so far all is well. Of course I envy the technically skilled guys here which built themselves so called "Frankens".

Regards,

Bernie

hey Bernie, well the 42mm looks good. Did you get the 21J movt from Josh? I didn't see the 42mm versions with the ETA or Asian clone movts, but perhaps I am wrong.

Either way, congrats on the purchase!

Hi,

Sorry - did see your post right now. The movement is really great, although it is the cheap DG4813, but after I adjusted it, it runs very accurate (before also ok, 12 secs +). The watch is so beautiful and overall well built, BUT BEWARE:

The Chinese did use a shitty soft metal for the crown threads, so my crown doesn't screw anymore - this is a well known problem with this watch.

Bernie

Damn, sorry to hear about your broken crown... so does that mean you can't adjust the time or date anymore? If so, how can you fix it?

Hi,

No problem with setting time or winding the watch (some Automatics can be wound others not, like Seiko or Orient). Also setting the date is no problem. The crown functions ok, it is just not "screwable" anymore. This is a cosmetic thing, because replicas are not waterproof like gens. If it would happen on a gen watch, you could not dive / swim anymore, because of the crown not being screwed tight.

So the watch works very well, it is just the look that sucks a bit, because the crown doesn't sit "right" (you see a bit of the stem, but not much).

As it is a replica and was never waterproof, it is just as functional as before, but ....the look

Bernie

Hey Bernie, thanks a bunch for your help. At least your crown and rest of watch is functional - the cosmetic part isn't too bad. Also, I suppose you could replace the broken crown with a gen crown for not too much?

I hope to purchase my first PO rep soon!

Hey Saz, when you bought your Planet Ocean Rep, do the "trick" when screwing the crown in. You apply light pressure while turning the crown "backwards", then you should feel the threads aligning (little click they say) and just then you turn it clockwise and screw it on. I didn't use this forum "trick", maybe it would have helped a bit.

Bernie

gen crown and tube is a cheap and relativly easy mod-and would fix all the cosmetic probs...and you would have gen parts installed so it would be the beginnings of a franken! i know the gen parts fit the larger planet ocean rep but not too sure about the 42mm...i gotta say superb looking watch buddy, for the money i think this rep is unbeatable!
