I think I read (I may be mistaken) that Canon are on the brink of bringing out the replacement for that camera, and Nikon about to bring out a replacement for the D700 so it could be an interesting few months on the camera front.

The 7D MkII is indeed rumoured. I can't afford one today, and I won't be able to afford one when they come out, but I'll definitely be renting one early next year when I next have a motorsports assignment.
