asf Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 Basically, I love GMT Masters! I love the transitional models ie: lug holes and sapphire crystals. My problem is what parts to get to make one? I have a gmt master II dial, I just need the correct case and bezel assembly. The thing is though I know the 16760 is a fatter case and ratcheting bi directional bezel. Basically what case should I start with? If that case doesnt have lug holes, then Ill need it drilled anyhelp would be appreciated! site: http://doubleredseadweller.com/gmt_transition.htm gens:
chiman12 Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 The Fat Lady eh...how about using a more modern GMT case and reworking it? I would figure that the modern cases would be a little thicker than the vintage models. Might be something to consider...
asf Posted September 12, 2011 Author Report Posted September 12, 2011 Thinking like the modern GMT Master II cases, but not the 50th anniversary FAT cases right? Getting non SEL end links and gettiing lug holes drilled?
asf Posted September 12, 2011 Author Report Posted September 12, 2011 Which looks less wokky http://puretimewatch.com/product/gmt-master-ii-16710-bluered-bezel-correct-hand-stack/ or http://puretimewatch.com/product/gmt-master-ii-bluered-bezel/
chiman12 Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 Thinking like the modern GMT Master II cases, but not the 50th anniversary FAT cases right? Getting non SEL end links and gettiing lug holes drilled? Correct...not the GMT IIc case, I think that would be too fat!
Tiyal Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 (edited) Funny, I spent the entire evening thinking about this same watch. Love the 1983 16760, would like to see a gen crystal in it. Or, an aftermarket crystal that has the black hole affect. I'm considering a CHS, lugs drilled, lumed, with a Pan AM (going out of business) logo case back. Edited September 12, 2011 by Tiyal
asf Posted September 12, 2011 Author Report Posted September 12, 2011 That's some fancy caseback work to get that done I'm needing to find a good base watch. That first link insisted is a CHS piece. Thanks again Chiman
jmb Posted September 13, 2011 Report Posted September 13, 2011 That's some fancy caseback work to get that done I think I've already got the artwork made up for that...

asf Posted September 15, 2011 Author Report Posted September 15, 2011 Just realizing that the dial is Tritinum with surrounds. The problem now: converting L SWISS L to T SWISS T any advice?
asf Posted September 18, 2011 Author Report Posted September 18, 2011 mmmmm.... Rivets and Lugholes Speaking of that. is there a rep if the 78360? Thats a non folded link version of the 7836 with the single locking clasp.
