I've recently got my pam111 with the same rubber strap. "vanilla" is indeed a good word to describe the scent. I didn't boil it as I found that to be too extreme. What I did do was to put the strap under running hot water for awhile before wrapping it in newspaper overnight. The next morning the scent wasn't as strong as the first day I received the watch and I began to start wearing it. Have been wearing it for almost a week now and the smell has subsided. Hope that helps!
