Broken stem

I lent a friend my 177 without a winding lesson and I suspect he wound it backwards and the stem is now out.

I can still wind it and it's fine with CG on but can't change the time as it will simply slide out without the CG. If it's a threading issue there doesn't seem to be a way to get it to engage.

Is this something a clumsy person with a small screwdriver and no experience can fix or is this a good opportunity to buy the platinum movement since I will need to send it out anyway?

Good chance that the setting lever screw has just come loose. Open case back and tighten screw on the back of the movement just above where the stem enters. If this does not work then there is a good chance your keyless works are buggered and need to be reset. See plan B

I agree the setting screw has worked loose and the lever is not being moved when you pull the crown as the pin is not sitting in the detent

Thanks guys. But it looks like plan B is next. Now to find some tutorials to try to install it myself.

Edit: it just occurred to me I need to deal with dial and hands. Forget the DIY.
