ryaku Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Amazing watch, I love that central seconds hand with the silver tube. It's so true..it's all in the details Wear it well!
Adeodatus Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Such a great watch! I really like the strap as well, so elegant with the black dial. Can you elaborate a bit more abot the modifications you've done? Also: I'm planing to start my Mark XVI spitfire franken project. It would be great if you could point me to dealers or memebers who can provide gen parts for these watches.
superlative Posted January 18, 2012 Author Report Posted January 18, 2012 I used the case from PureTime's Spitfire XV since it has the correct lug-width (19mm) and correct case back. The dial, hands, crown and crown tube are genuine IWC. I used a Swiss ETA 2892-A2 movement.

Yes, Superlative, maybe you could point him to some members who can provide gen parts for these watches. I hear the hands are very hard to source. Edited January 19, 2012 by Texski 1
cougar1 Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Looks gorgeous, such a classic design!
grifter Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Who or where did you find those gen hands? I've been looking for over a year for a set! Dials and crowns seem to come up now and again. But those hands are so elusive! PLEASE SHARE!
miagi Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 tried concepta? (dunno if hes in the business anymore) or texski? didnt they provide the iwc goodies? edit; oh and love the watch!
superlative Posted January 21, 2012 Author Report Posted January 21, 2012 (edited) Specs of the above watch:PureTime Mark XV Spitfire case. This case has the correct dimensions (19mm lug width, correct case back)Swiss ETA 2892-A2 movementgen IWC dialgen IWC hands (thanks, Texski)gen IWC crown and crown tube (thanks, Texski)rep buckle (I've switched it to the rep IWC deployant clasp) The photos were taken with a Google Nexus S phone! I should add, if anybody is interested, I have an extra case with gen crown tube. All you'd need is a dial, hands, crown and movement. This case can be used for the Spitfire XV line as well. FloridaSam Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 Hmmmm I just got an Omega 1120 (ETA 2892) chronometer movement.... this just might be the place to put that movement...... Beautiful build, its exactly what I was hoping to see today. Awesome.
eunomians Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 Nice watch. I made one of these many years ago. Still have it. Great to have another club member Took me a long time to collect the parts.
Seadweller4000 Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 So frickin' beautiful. Understatement at its best.
spooky driver Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 I love the mark xv's elegance and class but it is just too small on my wrist! Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
superlative Posted February 24, 2012 Author Report Posted February 24, 2012 Thanks for all of the nice comments. I have the 2892 regulated to +2s/week.
eunomians Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 I love the mark xv's elegance and class but it is just too small on my wrist! This is my dilemma as well. I can't part with my watch, but I don't wear it due to its very small size. Many years ago I used to wear it--back when smaller watches were the norm. I just can't pull it off nowadays with a fairly large wrist and the inherently tiny size of the MKXV. The nice part though is that the watch is quite thick. It somewhat fools the eye into thinking the watch is slightly bigger than it really is. I have been hoping for a very long time that IWC will make a new Mark series watch that is 42mm-44mm. Perhaps one day...
