Watchmeister Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Waiting until I meet up again, hopefully tomorrow or lunch this coming week. Will take pics and let you decide Pics would be great but if you get a chance to put your rep next to the gen and are satisfied with the dial then I am sold.

Congrats!
relaxman Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Beautiful!! May I know which strap is that? It's the strap that came with it just oiled up a bit.
blbl Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 It's the strap that came with it just oiled up a bit. Oiled it up? What did you use? I havent done any strap treatments before so very new to this.. Just ordered a 390!
Jkay Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 I use normal leather treatment cream. Like Lexol. Rub it in with a cloth and let it sit. You want it to soak in and change the look of the strap. Check out the Automotive store in your area. If you're out in the countryside then check out tack and harness treatment creams
Jkay Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Every piece of leather is different, so your results can and probably will vary from mine, but you can see in this photo I took a moment ago, that the leather conditioning cream has taken the flat, uniform surface of the strap and added many areas of darker "freckles" .. and at least my Wife thinks it looks a lot less "plastic" in her words.
dluddy Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Wow B. Might have to jump on this one. Looks great
projectologist Posted February 1, 2012 Author Report Posted February 1, 2012 Wow B. Might have to jump on this one. Looks great The brown dial really pops when the light is right. Indoors it's not as obviously brown but those Pre-V style gold hands make up for it.
projectologist Posted February 1, 2012 Author Report Posted February 1, 2012 How is the CG on these? flush? If you mean CG to case fit, mine is flush. The lever pin was slightly raised, and now it sits very slightly below flush per gen.
Craig88 Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Yeah that is what I mean. H fac has a reputation of having CG's that have gaps between the casing.
projectologist Posted February 2, 2012 Author Report Posted February 2, 2012 Yeah that is what I mean. H fac has a reputation of having CG's that have gaps between the casing. Noobs too... it's always been hit and miss with reps (I've even had gens that if you held them up to a strong light source, you could see a faint gap under one of the feet). But the QC appears to be getting better or I've been lucky lately.
JMR49 Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 I'm new to this game, when you said you got your strap from AD what does that exactly stand for. I'm looking to order that strap as well. Thanks in advance.

I'm looking to order that strap as well. Thanks in advance. AD = "Authorized Dealer" for Panerai. Boutiques usually have a supply of them as well. Plus most will ship if ordering by phone.
lfovco Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 (edited) I have never seen Panerai straps made smaller then their standard size. They are too long for me, I always have to have them custom made. I guess even if I buy a Gen I could never use the straps. By the way, going back to 390. More I look at it and all the tiny, tiny details I see that this turns out to be very likely the closest to the Gen model ever made. I would also recommend this strap for 390 http://www.manifattu...cat/50/idart/76 I have 2 of them, the first one I ordered back in 2005 when they first released that strap model, it is holding up really, really well. Their quality is amazing. They still smell brand new :-) The leather they use is top notch quality. When I compared these with my friend's Gen staps, the Gen straps just felt cheap... again this is my personal opinion but I'm really picky as well. Of course there is many other amazing strap makers to choose from. Edited February 9, 2012 by lfovco

mrlimpeh Posted February 13, 2012 Report Posted February 13, 2012 Will the price drop in a few months time ? Looks good but on a budget ...
projectologist Posted February 13, 2012 Author Report Posted February 13, 2012 Will the price drop in a few months time ? Looks good but on a budget ... If you mean the rep... probably not. In some instances I've seen the price increase a little over time, but usually they remain the same for a pretty long time.
