Gen or Aftermarket Daytona 6263 parts?

Dzoe

Recommended Posts

Hello guys,

a very very nice forum here! Can somebody tell me which rep 6263 parts are as genuine? I've seen some on yuki and DW but are their pushers and crowns same as gen? If possible i would buy a complete watch from DW but don't know if the quality is ok... Got anybody experience with their 1:1 case reps?

ps: sorry for my bad english

greets

Quality of the DW cases is awesome, as far as the Daytonas. His stuff is pretty close to gen; I guess you have to do some work to get gen parts to fit with rep parts, but other than that, his stuff is really good.

I don't know if he is out of the business, though. I read some places that he is finished for good, other places that he is still going. :S

Thanks for reply buddy.. I read on several sites that they sell some gen parts for 6263 and think about to buy them. I don't know if DW's cases are so perfect made to fit gen parts or have to be modded first.

The V72 caseset can accept also gen movement..

Or you can go for the 7750 case...

My 6263 (7750 powered) is fitted with:

- gen T21 RSC crystal

- gen crown & tube

- gen bracelet with gen 571 endlinks trimmed to fit the case

- yuki pushers

My 6239 (7750 powered) is fitted with:

- gen T21 domed crystal

- gen crown & tube

- gen 7835 braceleto on rep 571 endlinks

These pieces can be fitted without problems..

Great, many thanks! That means all of yuki parts are reps? There is no info about their parts if gen or aftermarket.. :-/ I look for the V72 movement to fit the yuki case. Got anybody an idea where to buy gen parts for 6263 for a good price?

Need these parts:

Bezel (Black)

Dial

Hands

Pushers

The biggest problem for me is to get the v72 movement cause can't find it anywhere on the internet..

Generally everything Yuki, Phong etc. sell are aftermarket parts.

If you decide to build a high end 6263/6265 franken with some harder to source gen parts like the dial, bezel etc., I would highly recommend you spend some more time reading up what there is to know about vintage Cosmographs. The book "Daytona - a Legend is Born" which is also available as an iPhone app is a good starting point on this journey. There are some very good aftermarket parts, though most I know of will be a pretty easy tell for someone in the know.

Here's a quick overview of what I think you have a reasonable chance to buy genuine parts for.

Dial: 1000€+++ (depending on condition and version, generally the sky is the limit here)

Hands: 200€++

Pushers: 200€+

Bracelet: 500€+++ (571 Endlinks - now most likely considerably more expensive due to Rolex's recent price increase for vintage parts )

6263 bezel: 1000€+++

6265 bezel: 600€+

Serviced V72/V726: 750€+

The more obtainable gen parts are the crystal and crown/tube, which you should be able to get for around 100€ new each. These are prices I would consider realistic and what I would, in the current market situation, buy them for.

Wow S., I think your prices are a bit under the market price these days

Dzoe, if you want to make a "franken" Daytona, as wiesn089 said, you have to acquire a lot of knowledge before starting this. "Daytona, a Legend is Born" is probably the best start ;)

DW is a good point to make a "cheap" Daytona, where cheap is not under 1500 EUR total. His case is pretty good (edit: pretty good for the price ! but not so good indeed...), but the quality varies, depending of his stocks... Sometimes, his cases needs a little of machining to makes the movement fitting perfectly. And do not expect to have good engraving with DW cases, the font he is using makes my cry...

Phong is the best way if you want to make a "ultra-franken" rep. But this is not cheap at all : somewhere like 1200 EUR for the complete case kit with gen T21 / crown / tube (if he have it !)

The gen parts what are easy to find (and not too much overpriced) are : Tropic 21, 703 crown, 7030 tube, 78350 bracelet, and 571 end pieces.

Consider all the other parts are not cheap, and pretty impossible to find at a "normal" price.

About movement, you can consider about buying a "donor" watch on the bay, with a v72 or a v726 inside.

In my opinion, here is my "quick overview" of gen parts pricing :

- Dial : not under 1400-1500 EUR for a service dial in good conditions. It is much more like 1700-2000 EUR for a Tritium dial, depending of the conditions. Also, finding a dial is really hard.

- Bezel : not under 1500 EUR for a black bezel in good conditions. You can find damaged bezels for a lower price, but you have not the guaranty it will fit your case. It's something like 700-800 EUR for a metal 6265 bezel in good conditions

- Hands : not under 500 EUR for a complete hand set, and also pretty impossible to find. But you can go with DW hand set, this is good stuff

- Movement : to me, it's difficult to have a v72 serviced under the 800 EUR mark these days. For the v726 serviced, 950 EUR seems to be a good price. Warning, do NOT buy damaged or incomplete movement. Do NOT buy crappy unserviced movement, they are difficult to service without breaking parts. Always ask a clean photo of the movement and post it here before the buy. etc etc etc. These movement are old, so it is difficult to find a clean and serviced movement.

- End links : somewhere between 150-200 EUR... But warning, not guaranteed it will fit your case :)

There is not 36.000 solutions to find rare parts like dial or black bezel : days, weeks, months of researches on gen forum (VRF, TimeZone, ...) / eBay

But the 2 most important things before starting a Daytona project are :

- Learning the differences between gen and aftermarket parts. Or you will have some... surprises... :-)

- Definite yourself a precise budget to make your first Daytona :

If you want to go for a "cheap" v72-powered Daytona, 1500 EUR seems to be a good budget for DW case set / dial / hands, gen T21, crown, tube, and bracelet (not 571 end pieces)

If you want to go for an "ultra franken" Daytona, you can expect something between 4000-5000 EUR to make a credible rep. Where credible means experts will see very quickly the case / movement are not gen :)

And if your budget is lower than 1500 EUR, just look at a Spinmaster's 7750 Daytona on the Sales section, with gen parts.

R.

PS: 1:1 Daytona case do not exist in the aftermarket world... ;)

PS2: DW, Yuki, etc. do not sell gen parts. Phong "SOMETIMES" sell gen parts (at an indecent price). I don't know about NDT.

I bow down to the great knowledge in this forum, thank you so much guys for posting!!

WORD!

Special thanks to you guys, you are great!! Nobody on any forum answered me so quickly in detail.. ;)

You're right, it would be very difficult to start with that kind of watch.. The money is not the problem for me but my knowledge about all that is not so great to find all that stuff and make a "super franken".. Just want to buy a nice 6263 (near genuine) which don't look like the most cheap reps on internet..

At our specialists here, what you think about this site? http://www.chrono-shop.net

It's almost impossible to find one hyper-franken Daytona for sale ;)

And about knowledge, just post your questions to us :)

But be careful, creating a Daytona is a long way... very long way... I have spent about 8 months to finding parts for my 2 Daytona's, and I was (very) very lucky

I you want a great Rolex rep "now", the Daytona is not the good way to choose ! :)

what you think about this site? http://www.chrono-shop.net

He sells genuine items, he is French and I have ordered maybe 3 or 4 items from him

But his prices are clearly overpriced most of the time

Yeah, I probably lost touch with current part prices since I don't have to hunt for them on a daily basis anymore (thank god! ;)). Though I wouldn't mind another black sigma dial for safekeeping and better times...

It's so painful to see how the prices of vintage pieces is rising, and rising, and rising...

About your Sigma dial, you were in my opinion very lucky... :p

This forum has the most knowledge on vintage Rolex.

I'm always amazed at the wealth of information that's so freely given.

So many here have already "gone where no man has gone before"

I have a few very nice builds that could not have happened without the help here.

As to the Daytona, it's an expert build. Not for the newer guys. Even having alot of money to pour into it is not everything.

Like valty said, it's best to buy books and read everything you can..just so you can learn to tell the gen parts from aftermarket.

This is why I don't have a Daytona...

Yet :)

Allright i will buy some books to learn about this watch because i love it. :) What do you think, which vintage rolex is good to start to learn about modding with rep and gen parts? Which site is good for beginning, to buy parts from? I mean not to expensive because when i see some prices i could buy the watch as gen for a little more...

Many many thanks @ all for your help!

Starting out, I would go with an MBW and make either a 1680 or a 1665. There is a thread here about someone's 1680 white that looks pretty darn close to gen! I believe High (can't remember full user name) sells MBW cases. From there, you could get an Ingod dial, gen crown and tube, gen insert, JMB retaining ring, and still be way under the price of a used gen.

Sounds good but where to buy all these parts? The most sites i saw got much higher prices.. Could somebody help me to find something for a 1680? DW got a case for 99usd.. Is that what you mean?

I cannot agree more with you, this forum, and especially the Rolex section, is incredible :)

It just gave me the virus...

You know, the vintage Rolex virus... :p

1680 sounds a good project to start. Don't buy 1680 case from DW, if my memory is good, it do not takes gen parts easily, and needs a lot of machining. Needs confirmation to be sure :)

MBW cases are hard to find, I don't really know where to buy it, but they are very good for a franken project.

You should consider also making a 5512/3, there is a really interesting and recent thread about Josh's case (I believe it was 1680 case, but good to make a 5512/3 too). Just use the search function of the forum !

If the search function runs bad, just type site:rwg.cc your search on Google. ;)

But anyways, you seems very impatient to buy... Do not be so impatient, the best recommendation I can tell you is : read this forum, read the older posts, search about posts relating a specific build, and learn the maximum you can from here.

This is probably the best way to start. Buying parts will be the next step !

Also, take a look at the sales corner every day to see what's coming... Franken 1680 / 1665 / 5512-3 are for sale often :)

What are the part numbers for the crown and tube needed for the 6263?

Thanks

It depends of the circa of your future watch :-)

Can be :

24-700 / 24-7000 (early ones, costly)

24-701 / 24-7010 (uncommon, forget it)

24-702 / 24-7020 (mid ones, very costly)

24-703 / 24-7030 (later ones, service replaced)

I will PM you more details soon ;)

R.
