Servicing Pam Question

I want to take my 2 new reps to get serviced one of which is the 390 - But wanted to know if there was anything I should be telling my watch guy.

I have read that you should be specific about what should be done to them - or what should be checked, making sure not to over oil...things like that.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated

If you have to tell the watch guy how to do his job, I suggest you find someone qualified.

It's like having to explain to your car mechanic how to fix your car...find another garage...and quick...

The ETA oil charts for the base movements all our reps either use, or are based on, are easily found online. Zig is right though, any decent watch maker would already have those.

what I also wanted to know was; what is the most common thing that prevents the 6497 movement from lasting a few years without any hiccup?

1. Dropping the watch on the floor.

2. Not servicing it.

Honestly, service it and it will run with ho hiccups for many years. You should really not over think this stuff too much. 6497 is a simplest movement to service for an expert watch-master and very reliable.

How much does a base 6497 cost? Can you buy them off the shelf like the ones with second hand or do they have to be modded first?

I can second that. I've got a few pieces that I've never trusted to ANYONE before, and Ziggy proved his mad skillz to me by going way above and beyond with them.

You just won't find a better watchmaker. But good luck getting an appointment, I think he's booked out to the year 2024 or so...
