r3zn Posted April 27, 2012 Report Posted April 27, 2012 I recently received a watch (Panerai) from a TD and there are a couple of issues that I have not come across before. The first is the glass. It's a sapphire crystal with light AR coating but there seems to be a layer of dust on the inside making the glass look dull. I noticed a bit of dullness in the QC pics but thought it must be the lighting of the room and didn't think much of it until I got the watch yesterday. Looking at the watch it just doesn't look sharp, the dial is not "there" like it is with my other watches and the date is hard to read as well. When I angled it outdoors under the sun I could see a film of dust or particles of something on the inside of the glass and I managed to take a few pics which I sent to the TD. They agreed to take it back and fix it up or send me a new one. The other issue is with the movement...it's loud! Every time I move my hand I can hear it. It's a 23J. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do about it to make it quieter?
Cats Posted April 27, 2012 Report Posted April 27, 2012 Ouch that's a lot of dust and [censored] on the crystal. Do you mean that our TD send out these kind of crystal , impossible to come through the quality check. Carpe Diem Cats
ubiquitous Posted April 27, 2012 Report Posted April 27, 2012 That crystal is an old rep sapphire. Pretty nasty, eh? The inclusions and particles you see are infused/embedded inside the crystal. No way to get rid of them. Same watch after PVD and with a new sapphire fitted: Much better.
r3zn Posted April 28, 2012 Author Report Posted April 28, 2012 (edited) Yep that's it. Here is a pic of it. Edited April 28, 2012 by r3zn
FxrAndy Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 Well the 23j asians are loud particualy the rotors on the dust, well that is not acceptable send it back
r3zn Posted April 28, 2012 Author Report Posted April 28, 2012 I am sending it back. And the TD has been really good about it. I agree that it should have been picked up before it was sent. As for the loud movement, is there anything that can be done about it?
