how in the world do you get a mirror finish like a brand new watch ?

You must buy a buffing machine. Purchase jeweler's rouge in stick form ... then polish!

Brushed metal is a bit easier .. 3M metal refinishing pads of different grits are the order of the day.

Another option, are four-sided nail files. The first two surfaces are the buffing surfaces, the second two are for the fine polishing, and the results're pretty good :)

If Cape Cod could get out scratches, professionals would use it for that purpose. It is too mild for serious work.

It has it's good uses but it can not hope to replace a buffing wheel (or dremel) and rouge.

In the same way sandpaper can not replace a belt sander.

I'd recommend Mother's mag with a nice microfiber over cape cod. Cape cod cloths are nice for quick touch ups but for getting a like-new finish, it won't get you there. Too much grit so it'll leave hairline scratches.

edit: ha, should've read the thread. What Jkay said :).
