Where to find a Zenith El Primero caliber for Daytona 16520 ?

Hello RWG :)

All is in the title... I don't find any Zenith Caliber 400 for a good price right now...

About that, the caliber 400 is the replacement for Rolex 4030, right ? I see a date system, is it a problem or not ? I want to be sure to catch the good movement :)

Also, any idea about a "right" price these days ?

Thanks :)

R.

Have you looked for the Movado 3019 or the Ebel 134 variants?

Absolutely not, I'm pretty new in this model because it was not possible to me to source the gen 4030 parts needed to convert the movement for gen hands. Now I can, so I'm starting to look.... ;)

Thanks for the tip...!!!!! Much appreciated !

PS: They are all the same movement ? Only re-branding ? Have you an idea for a fair price these days ?

Yep they will both work. Am guessing you will be around $1,500 USD on the low end. BigCrown had one listed at $1,600 but I believe it sold.

Here's a gorgeous Movado on the Bay at $1,850 BIN.

And another that's taking bids.

And a BIN at $1,600.

The Ebel movement shows up in the 1911 series. Be careful though because Ebel switched to the Caliber 137 which is an in-house movement that will not work. You need the 134.

Thank you for all this information :)

The only thing that is bothering me is to "kill" this kind of watch to have a donor movement .... ;) They are so beautiful !

I also found this : http://cgi.ebay.fr/Z...=item1e6e3707ef

Trying to see with the seller if he can send with low value declared...!

I suppose it is preferred to get the movement serviced before doing anything ?

I would always factor in a service, but fair warning the service on this movement will not be cheap. Of course you are probably used to it since you've built a couple of v72 Daytonas ... ;)

This one looks pretty clean actually from what can be seen in the pictures, so you might be able to get away with not doing it immediately. Good luck!

Hi,some times ago I "made" a Daytona and bought an El Primero movement for 900 euros, the seller had 2 of them,if you want I can ask him.Be careful about Daytona project,it's very expensive.I found an original case ,dial, bezel and band but ,with same money you can buy an original Submariner or Explorer.

Thanks for the input :-) I heard servicing is between 200 and 600€, depending of who is doing this... But it is a very special movement, I think I will not give it to anyone.... ;) I have asked the seller if he can get the movement serviced for me... I will see !!!

I think I will not use unserviced movement, because it will be some big pain in case I need it in 1 or 2 years... I heard hands are not liking to be removed / replaced many times... Plus it will be very difficult to find a watchmaker who can service the El Primero AND a replica.... ;)

To me, that's the biggest drawback on this kind of projects !

wow that first movado looks fantastic ..

You are absolutely right ! I would kill me to remove the movement on this one...

Yes, I know this kind of project is very expensive !! I have already many pricey projects in progress... 6240, 6265, 1665, all with full gen parts minus the case (Phong)

If you can ask your seller, I would be very grateful !! :)

How is the phong 16520 case set compared to the gen one? Pretty 1:1?

The better if you are interested is to ask Phong photos of the case he have currently in stock. Then, you can compare to the gen or ask here ;)

Ditto that!

I am still awaiting replacements from Phong for parts I received that did not match the pics/descriptions on his website. In 1 case, he sent me pics of a dial that I declined (printing was terrible), yet he sent it anyway with a promise to exchange it promptly if I did not like it. Many weeks later, I am still awaiting the promised replacements. You would think that, at Phong's prices, he would, at the very least, make absolutely certain that his stock matches his pics or give top priority to mistakes when they occur. (I would add a SAD face here, but no smileys at the moment)
