$900 IWC Top Gun worth the price?

I am looking for a 3799 double chrono IWC top gun.

Have read the forum many times so get some more knowlegde about the reps of this watch.

I am just looking for a good version, so I will probably be within the $300-$400 range which is fine with me.

But then I saw this $900 version on puretime with swiss movement. I know it's not a 3799 version btw;-)

Is this worth it or totally overpriced?

Besides that I see a v1 of this watch (3799) and a v2, can anybody tell me the difference and what currently is the best version for $300-$400 range?

http://puretime.co/p...swiss-eta-7750/

and this is the 3799 I found, available at multiple dealers here:

But this one doesn't have the grey rings around the small dials at 12 and 6 like the gen one.

I did see a rep here on the forum that did had the grey rings. Anybody perhaps nows where this version is available?

Thanks guys!

Whilst it is nice to have the Swiss 7750, the Asian 7750 is equally a good work horse. In fact, I recommend the Asian and then a service on top. This is because the Swiss 7750 coming from a Chinese factory will still most probably go through very little QC and may be dirty and wrongly oiled. You'll end up servicing it anyway. Go for the Asian one imo, but in the end it's your choice.

As for which model - both are superbly replicated and close to gen. I have owned both and the double chrono sits much larger (like a Pam) which I prefer. I too was concerned initially about the seemingly missing grey circles around the sub-dials but in actual fact, they can be made out in certain angles.

All in all, both great reps, even with A7750.

Search is your friend. Whatever you want to know, someone has asked it before!

RWG Top Gun ceramic V1 and V2 comparison review

Sorry but this reviewer chose to use a 3rd party image host, instead of RWG hosting, so the pictures are long gone. A shame, really.

thanks for the link, so this review says the V1 is better, but you commented that you read another review that stated the V2 is better..

Haven't read the other one so can"t compare...

OK so I used Search again and found the original TG v1 by Pugwash and the original TG v2 review by Lanikai .. both these people are highly respected members who no longer visit the forum.

Torobravo is a dealer here, and appears to be a source of info on the V2 in the first article we discussed. Maybe you could ask his opinion.

so the v3 is already out haha..ok new watch to go and observe!

thanks for the info!

edit: just looked at his V3, unfortunatly no mention of superlume.

the V1 and V2 has that.

also nylon strap while there are v1 with real kevlar straps.

Maybe I should buy it, review it and when I not like it sell it haha ;)

Got a very quick reply from toro

I asked him for the difference between the V1, V2 and V3.

this is what he said:

V1 has wrong logo

V2 has correct logo

V3 has correct logo and superlumed dial and hands and exact same strap as gen

but still this is the 44mm model..not the 3799 unfortunatly but maybe a good alternative

Well the 3799 rep hasn't been out as long as the non double chrono (3789) hence why the "v" confusion. Most dealers should stock the V3 only or the 3799 which mirrors the advancements of the 3789.

So if it's 3789 , go for V3 which is the best version.

If you want the 3799, go ahead as that is the version that came out at the same time as the 3789 v3 (roughly).

Thanks, but I have also found the 379901 which should be the improved version of the 3799.

Besides that it's strange that only toro has the V3 and no other dealer..

So is there really a V3???

Hi there. Considering you could almost get a GEN Hamilton Chrono (i.e. X-Wind) ( http://www.authenticwatches.com/hamilton-khaki-x-wind-h77616533.html?productid=hamilton-khaki-x-wind-h77616533&channelid=PGRABhttp://store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/clink?movadobaby+H8SNTh+index.html+) with swiss 7750 movement in the pricerange 900-1200 USD, I would say 900 for a REP is a BigTime rip-off. No rep is worth 900 USD.

Considering GEN watches from reputable manufacturers with brand new and GEN swiss 7750, properly serviced and with manufacturers full guarantee at these prices, makes me believe that chinese rep dealers either price these items to reduce the demand, because they are not very easy to obtain these days (GEN Swiss movements has been very reduced in availability, or because they see a superboosted earning potential from purist REP collectors, demanding the best obtainable products. Especially GEN ETA movements, due to ETA's recent policy of only selling movements to the brands inside the Swatch Group).

Most GEN Swiss movements in REPS we see offered today, are problably Selita movements (clones of obsolete patented ETA movements).
