gasebah Posted October 17, 2012 Report Posted October 17, 2012 ...with a cape cod cloth and a scratch pen. What do you say? I like it a lot. -Alex
DemonSlayer Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 That's a fine looking watch Did you use the scratch pen on the bezel?
gasebah Posted October 18, 2012 Author Report Posted October 18, 2012 That's a fine looking watch Did you use the scratch pen on the bezel? Yes, I did. When I started I just wanted to get rid of a fine scratch, but then I ended up doing the whole watch.
sgtguk Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 Looking good gasebah haven't tried one of the scratch pens yet, looks like they do the job though !
grew Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 pardon my ignorance, but what are these scratch pens?
gasebah Posted October 18, 2012 Author Report Posted October 18, 2012 pardon my ignorance, but what are these scratch pens? http://www.watchtool.co.uk/scratch-brush-scratch-brushes-c-14_365.html
DemonSlayer Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 Yes, I did. When I started I just wanted to get rid of a fine scratch, but then I ended up doing the whole watch. I also have a similar situation with my MBK Nautilus. I got a pretty deep scratch on the bezel, brushed it out using a sanding block and tried my best to match the original grain using several blocks with different grit sizes... not a chance in hell. The newly brushed area stands out against the beautiful original factory finish. I was planning on looking for a watchmaker who re-finishes Pateks but after seeing your thread, I like the results you got with the pen.. nice job
gasebah Posted October 19, 2012 Author Report Posted October 19, 2012 The scratch pen does nohting at first. It takes some time, which is good so you can't really do anything wrong. The brushed part was very uneven when I received the watch. Especially around the crystal there were parts that looked very flat. Now it looks very refined. I was at a conference yesterday and the guy sitting next to me had a gen Blancpain, so I suppose he knew about watches. He couldn't take his eyes of my watch. So funny. Had he asked I would have told him that it is not gen of course, but he didn't. I have read that the cartel version is more exact in general but the MBK is more refined from the factory. Now all I need is a closed caseback.....
Watchmeister Posted December 31, 2012 Report Posted December 31, 2012 Looks really good. I assume that is the newest version. The date placement looks much better than my MBW.
