10 ft isn't even considered "splah resistant"..........150 ft rating is minimum for swimming.

 

 

 

 

Water resistance rating Suitability Remarks Water Resistant 3 ATM or 30 m Suitable for everyday use. Splash/rain resistant. NOT suitable for showering, bathing, swimming, snorkelling, water related work and fishing. NOT suitable for diving.

 

Water Resistant 5 ATM or 50 m Suitable for swimming, white water rafting, non-snorkeling water related work, and fishing. NOT suitable for diving. Water Resistant 10 ATM or 100 m Suitable for recreational surfing, swimming, snorkeling, sailing and water sports. NOT suitable for diving.

 

Water Resistant 20 ATM or 200 m Suitable for professional marine activity, serious surface water sports and skin diving. Suitable for skin diving. Diver's 100 m Minimum ISO standard (ISO 6425) for scuba diving at depths NOT suitable for saturation diving.

 

Diver's 100 m and 150 m watches are generally old(er) watches. Diver's 200 m or 300 m Suitable for scuba diving at depths NOT suitable for saturation diving.

Typical ratings for contemporary diver's watches. Diver's 300+ m for mixed-gas diving Suitable for saturation diving (helium enriched environment). Watches designed for mixed-gas diving will have the DIVER’S WATCH L M FOR MIXED-GAS DIVING additional marking to point this out.

As a note: Greasing rubbers does nothing for WR. Absolutely nothing! It merely protects the rubber compound and prolongs its lifespan.

It's like MD said. The right thickness of gaskets and tollerances between e.g. crown and tube makes a watch either WR or not. I've seen rep Submariners with perfect thick crystals and pristine nylon gaskets, trip-lock crowns with 3 greased seals and in the end water came in trough the tube hole that was drilled into the case and where the tube is screwed in. At the factory they forgot to ad the rubber..... So unless you have the watch professionally tested you will never know for sure.

I often chuckle when I read 3atms or O'boy we really took out all the stops on this one 5atms on rep sites like that is a big deal, just showing how shoddy they usually build. 

I can get 200 meter watch brand new all day long for under 100 bucks, they need to up their game.
