thealphabeta
Thanks MD. That is exactly what I used. It was very useful. Just doesn't explain what Rolexman is talking about
thealphabeta
Will do. Need to get that one dip stuff. I didn't clean the spring etc having read about rust etc. probably doesn't help!
thealphabeta
So, I completely tore it down again today. New main spring fitted and new pallet bridge. Now it runs again but the hairspring only moves in very short swings. Any ideas?
Jkay
I looked over there but there didn't seem to be much going on so thought I'd get more feedback here. thealphabeta
The main spring is brand new. I bought it as a complete set. I'll triple check but it all seemed ok in inspection.
thealphabeta
Seems like the hairspring is turning properly even with a blow of air. It's like something is stopping it. Resistance from somewhere
Rolexman
Did you clean, check and oil both balance cap jewels?
thealphabeta
I've just realised what the issue is. The clamp for the balance jewel is broken so not holding it in properly. If I apply a small amount of pressure to the jewel the hairspring moves freely. Can you buy the clamps or is that the base plate ruined?
thealphabeta
Yeah that thing The other issue is I think I'm just having a problem installing the hairspring properly. I've been working on another 6497 movement this evening and am having the same issue. I can't install the hairspring so that it swing freely. Maybe I'm just not getting it seated properly? thealphabeta
Yeah I think this is the issue on both (that spring still needs replacing though). I can't seat the mainspring properly on either. I managed to get it going correctly and just before I placed the bridge I knocked it and that was it. Arghhhh. I'm never going to manage this. Is there a trick to getting it in? I've been looking for videos but can't find anything. I did wind before placing it but I'm finding it hard to align the jewel stone with the pallet when I do that
thealphabeta
A video would be amazing mate. I've tried for two hours straight and going to shoot myself if I can't do this haha. It's soooo stressful. I desperately want it to run
thealphabeta
Ha tell me about it. I dreamt of hair springs last night. Not even my imagination would let me believe I'd managed to seat it properly. Charming. I'll try again tonight but if you get a chance of that video I'd be immensely grateful
thealphabeta
You could do that yeah. I used a video hosting site and I steered it using IMG tags. Either woks IIRCThat's meant to say inserted. Damn predictive.
