Gen 6538 (?)

A friend is being offered this watch for a sum through a ( not Rolex) reseller which is not offering any guarantee. Is this an authentic watch or a fake? The insert looks odd and so does the second hand. What's your take?

first of all, it's a 6202. And I have no idea if it's genuine or not, need better pictures.

 

If I were to guess, it's not genuine.this is one of the variants, a waffle dial.

Not sure but I wouldn't begin to guess with hi-res shots of the movement, case/serial, and all aspects of the piece

I agree, without hi res photos from every angle, including the movement, I wouldn't make a guess. Also when you say no guarantee, then I am guessing that there is no return if the watch turns out to be a fake, put together parts watch, etc? If that is the case, unless he's buying it for the same price you could buy a super franken of this watch, I would not buy. Any seller who sells a watch like this with a no return, "you buy it, it's yours", would be suspect in my eyes.

The quality of the pic alone says fake. Other than that, as best as I can make out, it looks like a rep or franken, but impossible to tell with any certainty based on a defocused pic. The 2 things it does have going for it is what looks like a 5.3mm crown, which would be correct for a 6202, & a stretched bracelet.

Bottom line: The potential buyer has agreed a meeting with the seller at the local Rolex AD. The watch will be inspected by an expert in front of them.
