Rolex crown & tube life span

Here's a question I ask myself now that I have the chance of getting  a mehanical 6694 Precision Rolex Oyster.  I assume the power reserve must be about 36 hours, that is winding the watch every other day. How long will the threasd in the cown and tube will work until they need to be replaced ?

Good question. I have no idea but I would assume more frequently than an auto wind that doesn't have to be wound manually. I don't see why it can't last long if treated properly, if you are careful and don't strip the threads then you shouldn't have to change it for a long time

If the crown is unscrewed gently & screwed back down only until snug (not tight), it should last for several years.

That said, Rolex designed them to last 5-7 years, which is the recommended service interval.

The crown and tube on my 1665 are from 1971 and are still in good condition, and seal correctly (the o-rings have been replaced).

 

It's an automatic movement so it doesn't get unscrewed very often.  I treat it gently and suspect it will last awhile longer.
