ceejay
I have been studying the differences and flaws with the pearl on the submariner insert and notice nearly all display a relatively flush to the insert pearl (slightly proud) I have recently got a BK sub and mine is quite proud, much prouder than the pictures I have been looking at. I thought "there's a instant give away" But I just had a look at the official Rolex presentation video here rolex.com/en#/rolex-watches/submariner/introduction_video Thats just how mine looks. Did they change the pearl at some point? I have searched for the answer and all I could find was info relating to changing from a luminous pearl to a tritium pearl. Has this got something to do with it? Cheers. Edited March 24, 2013 by ceejay
SSTEEL
I think you answered your own question there, here's a snap from the video... The later pearls are as above, Luminous, and the earlier ones, (flush) were Tritium.

fidhle007
The difference you guys are seeing is between the aluminum and ceramic bezels. Aluminum bezels have more flush pearls (Trit and Lumi) and the ceramic bezels have more proud pearls as seen in the above screen capture.
alligoat
Fidhle's got it right. You're thinking of the older and now discontinued 16610 which had the flatter pearl and the new 116610 which has the prouder pearl.
