I wonder if a dial heated up on a gas stove might turn to tropic , i managed it on my 65 insert ok i know its a different process  but if anyone followed my insert fading experiment post a few weeks ago will see that some black inserts turned to olive green while others turned tropic like this one , its the colours used together to make up the black colour

Since it only happens to a relative few watches, that is likely the cause (defective mix).

Or, could it be how much sunlight the dial has been exposed to over the years?

Yes, my 1665 spent its whole life on the deck of commercial dive boats and it's brown as an acorn.<br /><br />But my 6536 spent its whole life outdoors and never faded.<br /><br />:g:
