Drummania
I see people build franken 16000 and 16200 datejust. Do they share the same case? Can you put sapphire crystal on 16000 case? Also, do 16200 and explorer 1 have the same case? Thanks!
specialvat
I have a 16013 case franken the hands where touching the glass on sapphire so had to go plexi. Hope that helps.
tomhorn
Yep, hands touching the crystal is the main issue. There are some conversion kits available to do it, but mixed results from people I know who have tried. If you want saphire, you really need to find a 162xx case. You can build an Explorer out of a DJ case. The most popular version is the vintage 1016 Explorer, although finding an acceptable dial is the main issue with this build. Also, you're best off getting the bezel from JMB, as just putting the Rolex DJ smooth bezel isn't accurate. You can also use the 162xx case for a 14270 Explorer build. Ubi did a very nice one and has a thread about it somewhere. Edited July 23, 2013 by tomhorn
Drummania
If I get an rep 114270 explorer, does it have the same case as 16200 or completely different? 16200 cases seem hard to come by.
tomhorn
I'm not familiar with the rep 114270. If you are trying to build a DJ, then I would go with JMB's case if you don't want to go gen.
alligoat
Mymanmatt got me a very nice DJ case with a sapphire crystal and I put a gen DJ dial in it. Case, crown, crystal and fluted bezel were very reasonable costwise- you need to check him out It took a 2836-2 movement

tomhorn
What is JMB case? Thanks! Forum member JMB produces a DJ case designed for a 2824 movement. He also is the go-to guy for custom bezels. Edited July 24, 2013 by tomhorn
alligoat
Nice! Did you do your own DWO?The movement I used had the DWO already in place- it was from an SSD V2. It lines up fine in the window, I just couldn't bend my wrist enough and snap the pic at the same time.
