Low beat movement..... isn't?!

I bought a 2846 for my Big Gonzo build and my builder says it's running at 28.8k bps.

Has anyone heard of this before or know how it could be doing this?

Either you have a franken movement or the plate was signed with the wrong model number (unlikely).

I thought franken too, but the original sales post from the prior/prior owner says it's a gen Tissot 2846.

Without changing the wheels, how can a movement running 33% faster keep time?

Perhaps the shorter hairspring from a 2801 movement?

Since parts for the 2846 movements are slightly more difficult to get a hold of, someone who did a service on the movement could have used the shorter hairspring from the 28,800bph 2801.

I may also be talking complete rubbish so please excuse my post if I'm saying something that isn't even possible.
