chris5264
I've had several watches with a 2824 but my movement knowledge is limited to the 6497. Here is the problem. I have a gen with a swiss 2824 but when I wind it, the rotor moves and it feels very sticky. This only happens when it is going clockwise, the crown feels very smooth going counterclockwise, so I don't think it is the stem or case tube. My first thought was that it winded fully, but it does this even after letting it sit for 24 hours. I sent it for repair and it came back the exact same way but it wasn't doing this the first few weeks I had it, it was always very smooth as my other watches with a 2824, so,,,any advice before I send this back another time. Could this be normal?
RWG Technical
The click wheels in the autowinder are damaged/gummed up...replacing or cleaning them throughly will fix the problem... Nothing to do with the stem or crown, click wheel sticks, when you wind by hand, you spin the rotor, rather than freewheel it as should happen... chris5264
thanks for the fast reply,,,,,,this is very helpful and specific to tell the company when I send it back. I don't want to try it myself until I finish the second level TZ course. this forum is so cool...
RWG Technical
My pleasure...seems as if the company missed it during the service... RG
stac
I had the same problem a while back and The Zigmeister came to the rescue. The click wheel assembly was gummed up. The entire click wheel assembly got a double soak in the ultrasonic cleaner and that took care of it!
FxrAndy
I have a vintage "Westend Watch Co" military watch that does the same with an older ETA in it, Must remember to get it repaired.
ubiquitous
One of the reasons why you don't want to do a lot of manual winding of the ETAs. Over time, wear and damage can occur to the click wheels.
