dwswatches
I know its the question everyone asks, but I am looking at the possibility of purchasing a Rolex Daytona. panerai153
Which model are you talking about? Vintage, modern, sec@9, sec@6? Need to be more specific, and probably a lot of your questions could be answered by searching the Rolex forum. Lots and lots of reviews, threads about the pros and cons of the various models. dwswatches
Yes, good point! I am after a modern Daytona. I had, about 10years ago, a Swiss Valjoux movemnet one, which worked well. I have also had some with other movements, some good, some not so good. I just wanted advice about who supplies the best ones.
tomhorn
The current modern fully functional Daytona with seconds at six has a very unreliable movement from the factory due to the friction caused by the additional transfer gears that have to be added to the A7750 to get the subdials correctly placed. There are a couple of mods that can be done to help this (the graphite mod and Domi's jewel add mod), but you are basically looking at a crap shoot for how long the movement will last before it dies. All of the dealers can get the same watches. If you want to have something more reliable, you can get the version without the working chronograph. If I were buying one, I'd get the fully functional version and send it off to Domi for his jewel mod.
Guest
and none are Swiss valjoux so don't buy into that bs. A decent Franken Daytona can be built for about $4000. I have had maybe 6 $300-400 Daytonas and none lasted more than a couple months even with graphite mods and dlc plates. irolexu
Pure time offers a Swiss modded at 6 Daytona but it's 1000 bucks. Please don't spend your hard earned money on that watch. It's not the movement that suffers it's the modifications
dwswatches
Thanks guys for your feedback and advice, seems that there are no reliable Daytona's out there, so I'll give them a miss for now.
irolexu
You can buy a seconds at 9 Daytona and those aren't half bad
