matzaman
Hi all, I've noticed that most of my reps coming from china have an industrial, almost smokey smell. Esp the leather ones. Any idea on how to get rid of that smell? Other than a gen strap?
Nightwatch
The best way really is to change the strap. Treatment for the smelly straps: exposure to sunshine (often) in the open air or/and pack them into simple household baking soda wrapped in cellophane paper for some days, the soda absorbs the smells (but just 24 hours is not enough). The cheaper ones even have cardboard paper inside, if that absorbed the smell it will never go away. Aftermarket straps don´t have to be expensive gens. And its very easy to do and fun with a lug removal tool, easiest is to buy a watch repair tool box from Amazon for 12/15 or 20 usd once, these are cheap built but include handy necessary equipment. Try Panatime, Strapped for time and these here http://www.watch-band-center.com/shop-watchstrap.html. Something like black calf leather alligator grain ($30) already works fine. Standard sizes are 20mm and 22mm.

Hi NW, just for your info, the cousins of RWG.bz have an internal shop that has products that are normally better quality then the Amazon stuff and quite inexpensive too. Look here (I'm waiting for a 2kg order ): http://shop.homage-watches-guide.com/ Cheers, GenTLe Edited July 5, 2014 by GenTLe
