Is that a good price and if I buy it can I put those movement in a rep watch? Is that possible or is that stupid what I am thinking? Excuse me for the stupid questions that I ask. tomhorn Posted July 21, 2015 Report Share Posted July 21, 2015 Assuming it's gen, that's a decent (but not great) price if it's been serviced recently. Having said that, IMO you should never put a gen modern Rolex movement in a franken build. They cost too much to make the franken build economically smart. For example, if you take one of these, buy a TC Sub case and bracelet, then add a gen dial and hands, crown and crystal, you are going to be over $3,000. If you want a gen like movement get the yuki 3135, for about 350USD, have it serviced and you have a movement that will take a gen date wheel ,dial and gen hands. I firmly believe that a lot of thes guys are going a little crazy with these 16610 and 116610 builds. Gen movement, hands, dial, insert crown/tube and you have a nice watch, but it's going to be a 3000.00 USD build. There is no way you will ever get your money back on a rep that costs 60-70 percent of a good genuine. If you don't believe me, go back and research the sales threads over the past several years, see how many "superfrankens" sit around forever and are finally parted out to get some of the sellers money back. There is a guy at RWI specialising in building 16610 superfrankens and putting in gen movement, etc - pushing $3-4K...jesus.. the moment you question the build, they give you a spiel about how its a hobby and that they enjoy building it and how its priceless.. it sure is PRICE-LESS - enjoy taking a 40% loss when you sell for parts. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Nightwatch Posted July 21, 2015 Report Share Posted July 21, 2015 For double the price You get a nice, used, gen 16570 Explorer II and it´s a fantastic watch, a Datejust old model would be possible too. If the intention is to spend that much it´s better applied in a vintage dial- hands- crown- crystal etc., an ETA or clone movement will do the job.
