Help Seamaster Professional Chrono problem

Hi

I just purchased a Seamaster Pro 300M Chrono SS/SS Blk/Ylw A-7750 from a TD. Pretty happy with the rep but the minute hand (@3 o'clock) on the chrono moves/flops about 5 degrees clockwise when the chrono is not in use. See the photos, just turning it up side down you can see how much it moves under gravity.

The TD is suggesting I send it back to China, but being UK based running the risk of postage/courier this doesn't feel like the right option. Anyone know what the problem could be and how to get it fixed in the UK/London?

Thanks

BJ

Returning to China is full of risks and takes time. I'd suggest contacting a European watchsmith where there is less chance of it going missing. I've had good results with SSTEEL who's a Brit based in the EU.

Quite a common problem with these modified A7750 movements where the minute counter is transferred from its native @12 position to @3.  Sadly, there's not much can be done due to the play in the gear teeth.  Sometimes replacing the minute gear/pinion with an earlier one will help, but ideally you need a new gear cut with more precise teeth that mesh with the other gear, and not flop/be loose.

Thanks for the help SSTEEL! What is the probability replacing the gear pinion will fix the problem and what would the cost of repair be? One of the way to make the problem less visible is leaving the chrono running. But, in looking up the problem I've also read that the mechanism can fail if running the chrono frequently....any views or advice on this? Thanks BJ

Agree, one should not really use the chronograph on an A7750, not regular anyway as they are build to look like the real thing, but not work with precise machined high quality parts such as an ETA movement, and as such, failings of components are likely.

Another option would be to freeze the minute hand.

I have had the same watch for two years now. My dial @ 3 moves a tiny bit when not in use. Just a smidge. I run the chrono once in a while. It's been fine. Resets perfect.
