2824-2 beating error

Tom Slijkerman

Question

Hi guys,

Is it correct you need to reach the part where the green arrow is pointing in order to correct the beat error of the 2824-2? What is the blue arrow pointing to?

Do you need to remove the oscillating weight for that? As it seems to be in the way for that...

The fix is much easier when you see how all escapement parts work together.

The first video explains how the Etachron escapement is made and shows how to check and correct hairspring misalignment, a common ailment:

Adjusting the Etachron Regulator: A Beginners Guide (youtube.com)

Beat error explained and how to correct it:

Beat Error adjustment and the theory behind it. (youtube.com)

Beat error correction is much simpler than escapement adjustment but the escapement must be in proper order first.

The lever where the blue arrow is pointing corrects the beat error. Move in or out to correct. Barely move when you do. It will also speed up or slow down the seconds a day setting.  Once the error is set, move  the lever the green arrow points to. Again, very small movements.
