Stem Removal For A Quartz/cheap Automatic

Recommended Posts

Can anyone advise me on how to remove the stem on a quartz mechanism. There is no holding screw as with the UNITAS - it appears you simply pull with needle nose pliers, but this leaves you very open to damage.

Would be grateful for any advice as I need to get the mechanism out of the case.

Thanks in advance

Look for a small arrow somewhere on the movement, it should point to a pin or hole, which is the release...

It's difficult to be specific without a photo or knowing which quartz movement you're working with. But I just finished swapping crowns on a friend's quartz watch and one of the screws near the stem hole was a set-screw for the stem. It may not be obvious (or marked), but if you can post a photo I or someone may be able to give you more info.

It's a Miyota FS20.

Cracked it - thanks guys. It did have a hold which said "press" near it, but the hole was so tiny you'd have been lucky to get a human hair in there. Also the stem needed to be all the way in to release it

Thanks for all the help.
