J-Auz
forgive me if this topic has been discussed before. i ran a search and found nothing. i just purchsed a fully modded MBW red sub. its been my holy grail watch for awhile now. i love the domed crystal and the face on the one i bought is aged to perfection. i cant wait to get it and i am praying that customs keeps their grubby hands off of it. anyway, does anyone know the history of the red sub? ive read some stuff on different sites and while most agree that the run on these was 1969-1973, there is some argument as the length of the run. some say it ran all the way into the late 70s, possibly 1979. are there any rolex history buffs that might be able to shed some light onto this. now that i have purchased one, id love to know more about it. and now, for some eye candy:

Bodo
The crystal is not domed. The 1680 has a rised flat plastic crystal with cyclops. Domed crystals are on the SD 1665 and the non date Sub 5512 - 5513.
