evildee Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 I just popped off mine for a replacement and there was no crystal gasket. It's suppose to have one, right?
eunomians Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 No gasket. The crystal is held down by pressure exerted by the crystal retaining ring (same as OEM). Cheers
Pugwash Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 No gasket. The crystal is held down by pressure exerted by the crystal retaining ring (same as OEM). There's a groove for a gasket.
eunomians Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 Fascinating. On genuine vintage Rolex sports models, there is no crystal gasket. Pure pressure exerted by the tension bezel ring is all you need. Of course, the engineering tolerances with OEM is vastly superior to reps
alligoat Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 People add the gasket in an attempt to improve the WR of the case/crystal interface. I've also read about people running a small bead of silicone around the bottom and then installing the crystal and pressing on the retaining ring. On one rep, I just glued the crystal down, but I don't really recommend that approach.
