beanyboy Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 I have been interested in purchasing a good quality Rollie Daytona rep for a while now. However, there was much discussion on this board a month or so ago about the reliability of the watch, especially since it needed to be Gerry-rigged six ways from Sunday in order to get the seconds at "6" and to get the chronograph spacing correct. Then a few of the folks on this board who really know their stuff started saying that the movement would fail. Well, may I get some input from those brave souls who purchased the new Daytona? Any problems? Would you do it again? Would you recommend to somebody that they fork over $300 to EL or Angus for such a beast? Just wondering. Any input is always appreciated. Beanyboy
JJFlash Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 I would vote it a "no buy". Mine arrived with defective movement. Stopped at 5:00 o'clock consistently. DaytonaT replaced it with a brand new movement. Now it refuses to wind on my watch winder. It has become a manual winding daytona. However, it does keep good time. I would go for new, improved Asian 7750 is some other configuration other than Daytona.
beanyboy Posted May 19, 2006 Author Report Posted May 19, 2006 Another sad story on the new "Seconds @ "6" Daytonas. Sorry to hear that your watch isn't up to standards. This convinces me to stick with the pre-2001 model, where the seconds are at 9. thanks. B
yodaddynukka Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 man i wanted to pull the trigger on the new 7750b from josh. but i guess not... so even if i am able to source a swiss 7750, it would still have to be modded and still would be unreliable, correct?
DRVJA Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 Have a daytona from Luckyyy witrh asian movement. been running strong for three weeks. within 10 second a week.. on watch winder when not on my wrist.. so far i was luckkyyyyy
GhostfaceZX Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 Have a daytona from Luckyyy witrh asian movement. been running strong for three weeks. within 10 second a week.. on watch winder when not on my wrist.. so far i was luckkyyyyy Have you used the chronos? Are there any problems with them resetting correctly? I also heard about some people who had to run the chronos all the time or else the watch wouldn't work, but I'm not sure if it was the old A7750..
kanerich Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 I think The Zigmeister's review says it all -- the modification to put the running seconds at 6 fundamentally puts too much stress on the movement, such that you cannot expect a long happy ownership experience with this watch.
DRVJA Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 chronos work and reset fine I am a believer in The Zigmeisters review and I am waiting dooom
Chronus Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 man i wanted to pull the trigger on the new 7750b from josh. but i guess not... so even if i am able to source a swiss 7750, it would still have to be modded and still would be unreliable, correct? Correct. And would be more expensive too.
Guest overboosted Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 I have 2 from Josh and one from EL All working flawlessly. Had 2 from josh fr about a month, and the EL one I got when they first came out, a few months ago.
bluespower Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 I have two - a SS numeral dial 2006 from Josh and a gold LB stick marker from Andrew. Both working fine, chronos fine, etc. No complaints so far.
Devedander Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 How far is so far (timewise)? I got one just because I had to have a Daytona... I figure it will break sometime inside year and my daytona fetish will be over. Either that or I will get a seconds at 9.
JJFlash Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 Just an update. This Daytona is now DEAD. Never going to buy a Asian 7750 with seconds at 6 ever again. (Not unless they make them more reliable.) I would vote it a "no buy". Mine arrived with defective movement. Stopped at 5:00 o'clock consistently. DaytonaT replaced it with a brand new movement. Now it refuses to wind on my watch winder. It has become a manual winding daytona. However, it does keep good time. I would go for new, improved Asian 7750 is some other configuration other than Daytona.
mums-mums Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 Seven weeks daily use of mine (IWC Portu Chrono) now. Working flawlessly, chronos and all. But, I am awaiting doom............. and will (probably) not by another 7750 sec at 6 until further (or doom).
Antonio Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 With so many watch reps with seconds at 6, is it just too expensive for someone to make a movement that works that way? So many of our reps use same or same spec movement as gens, I don't get why there's no option for this?
promotersf Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 Got one in White face and Black face and running like a champ. No problems yet...
t Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 i have 3 daytonas with running second 6 1 work good (used from my wife) the other 2 watches are defect. Not working and the chronos not on right positions BEWARE for asia 7750. Hand winder chronos are much better.
JJFlash Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 BEWARE for asia 7750. Hand winder chronos are much better. Got to agree here with tourbillon. If I get another Daytona, it will be with the Venus 175 movement. All my Venus 175's are working without a problem.
lovepanerai Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 never again...mine worked for 3 1/2 months and than stopped intermittently and I also just had 2 of my IWC Portos at The Zigmeister and one of them has the small seconds at 6 frozen now to make it work at all. My future mantra: NO HIGHLY MODIFIED MOVEMENTS!!!
