However, there was much discussion on this board a month or so ago about the reliability of the watch, especially since it needed to be Gerry-rigged six ways from Sunday in order to get the seconds at "6" and to get the chronograph spacing correct. Then a few of the folks on this board who really know their stuff started saying that the movement would fail. Well, may I get some input from those brave souls who purchased the new Daytona? Any problems? Would you do it again? Would you recommend to somebody that they fork over $300 to EL or Angus for such a beast? Just wondering. Any input is always appreciated. JJFlash Posted May 19, 2006 Report Share Posted May 19, 2006 I would vote it a "no buy". Mine arrived with defective movement. Stopped at 5:00 o'clock consistently. DaytonaT replaced it with a brand new movement. Now it refuses to wind on my watch winder. It has become a manual winding daytona. However, it does keep good time. Are there any problems with them resetting correctly? I also heard about some people who had to run the chronos all the time or else the watch wouldn't work, but I'm not sure if it was the old A7750.. kanerich Posted May 20, 2006 Report Share Posted May 20, 2006 I think The Zigmeister's review says it all -- the modification to put the running seconds at 6 fundamentally puts too much stress on the movement, such that you cannot expect a long happy ownership experience with this watch. lovepanerai Posted November 21, 2006 Report Share Posted November 21, 2006 never again...mine worked for 3 1/2 months and than stopped intermittently and I also just had 2 of my IWC Portos at The Zigmeister and one of them has the small seconds at 6 frozen now to make it work at all.
