Modified 7750 Reliability in New Daytonas

I have been interested in purchasing a good quality Rollie Daytona rep for a while now. However, there was much discussion on this board a month or so ago about the reliability of the watch, especially since it needed to be Gerry-rigged six ways from Sunday in order to get the seconds at "6" and to get the chronograph spacing correct. Then a few of the folks on this board who really know their stuff started saying that the movement would fail.

Well, may I get some input from those brave souls who purchased the new Daytona? Any problems? Would you do it again? Would you recommend to somebody that they fork over $300 to EL or Angus for such a beast?

Just wondering. Any input is always appreciated.

I would vote it a "no buy".

Mine arrived with defective movement.

Stopped at 5:00 o'clock consistently.

DaytonaT replaced it with a brand new movement.

Now it refuses to wind on my watch winder.

It has become a manual winding daytona.

However, it does keep good time.

I would go for new, improved Asian 7750 is some other configuration other than Daytona.

Have a daytona from Luckyyy witrh asian movement. been running strong for three weeks. within 10 second a week.. on watch winder when not on my wrist.. so far i was luckkyyyyy

Have you used the chronos? Are there any problems with them resetting correctly? I also heard about some people who had to run the chronos all the time or else the watch wouldn't work, but I'm not sure if it was the old A7750..

man i wanted to pull the trigger on the new 7750b from josh. but i guess not... :(

so even if i am able to source a swiss 7750, it would still have to be modded and still would be unreliable, correct?

Correct. And would be more expensive too.

I have 2 from Josh and one from EL

All working flawlessly.

Had 2 from josh fr about a month, and the EL one I got when they first came out, a few months ago.

  • 6 months later...

Just an update.

This Daytona is now DEAD.

Never going to buy a Asian 7750 with seconds at 6 ever again.

(Not unless they make them more reliable.)
